Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Comp MTB shoe missing screw - does it matter?

I just noticed yesterday that one of the screws is somehow missing from the bottom of my right shoe. I just purchased these shoes about 2 months ago as my first pair of cycling shoes at a LBS. I don't remember the screw ever falling out, and dont really know how or where it could have.

Does it matter that this screw is missing? What does it actually do, hold the outsole onto the footbed or something? I can't seem to find any "replacement screws" for sale online, so do I just head back to the LBS and try to get them to give me one or just go to a hardware store and fine one that fits?

Those holes exist to screw spikes into for help with runups and traction when MTBing, it really doesn't matter if there's anything in there or not if you're only riding on the road.

You might check to see if that screw is the same size/thread as the screws in the cleat. I know that the cleat screws are easy to come by.

Thanks, I was actually thinking something like that, because there are 4 "soccer style" cleats in the box the shoes came with and I was figuring they probably were interchangeable with the flat screws that are in there now. Just dont need to have extended spikes like that for road shoes.
