Why all the drafting?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tomorrow is a recovery ride - I'll take some shots and post. Maybe I'll get lucky and the elephants will show up as well.

They're tired but still want to go fast. You're like a passing trolley with free energy. Just drop them and move on. GL

I raced like hell to reel in a flashing blinkie on the MUP this morning. I thought it might be a friend of mine and figured we could share the commute. I caught up to him just before I get off the MUP and... it wasn't him. So I passed the guy and kept moving along. I never sucked his wheel as such, but he did pull me along in that I made great time trying to catch up to him.

Why would anybody want to do this? What is the point of riding if you're just gonna leach off somebody else? Why don't people just carry a hook and some rope to latch onto cars?

The whole peloton concept seems silly to me in anything besides a racing context. The groups of people doing this on weekends around the neighborhoods/MUPs/wherever still baffle me. Hanging off some dudes ass for 2 hours so you can gain 2mph sounds way less fun to me than riding with some room around you, or even, by yourself and just doing the work yourself.

So how nuts am I?
try asking the person drafting you.

and riding alone is boring.

I was shown the errors of my ways. It's pretty easy, I just ignore the really stupid threads, try not to get drawn into stupid arguments, and not tell people when they are stupid.

See a pattern?

"How long can that possibly last?"

Check the Vegas line... I think they're starting an over / under as we post. I'm leaning towards under. LOL

It's all relative.

Despite your protests to the contrary, I think that this was a decent thread, although from a misguided perspective. The fact that the OP didn't argue with everyone about it and realized (to some extent) the reasons and benefits of drafting helped the thread's standing considerably.
