Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

HELP!!! HED Jet6 used vs Sram S60 new w/warrenty

Hey everyone, I've come to trust the experience of the BF forums and I would love to get an opinion on 2 wheel options

1. Used HED Jet 6 (non FR) 1K miles and have been raced for a season - $900.00

vs

2. New Sram S60 with warranty - $1,100.00

Is it safe to buy raced Carbon Clinchers vs new ones with warranties for a bit more?

FYI - looks like 1840g for the SRAM, 1725 for the HED

Another note, the carbon faring is structural for the SRAM, not for the HED

Which one would you choose given the conditions .....used(raced) for $900.00 vs new SRAM S60 w/warranty for about $1100.00

Also I am not familiar with carbon faring, what structural difference does the faring make one vs the other....thanks

What's the bike, your weight, and what kind of riding do you normally do?

17lbs carbon bianchi.....I'm 5'9" 158lbs....used for flat time trial style zone 3/4 training and sprints. I am mainly a TT/Sprinter type and I currently ride 1900g Fulcrum 7's which suck for sprinting pretty hard. At 180rpm they feel like aerodyne resistance stationary trainers.

I would vote SRAM S60's. Should be stiffer because of the structural carbon, and if you have the $200, it's worth it for the warranty and peace of mind.

Not sure of SRAM's rim width but the HEDs are a bit wider than normal clinchers.

I went to all HEDs last year because the tubulars (wider than even the clinchers) forced me to actually unclamp the cable to the brake. Now I can use a barrel adjuster when I go between the tubulars and clinchers.

I have the 2011 HED Jet6 FRs and love them. Based on my experience with mine, if you can check out the HEDs in person and they're true and well taken care of, I'd go with them.

The HEDs aren't carbon clinchers. They're an aluminum wheel with a carbon fairing bonded to them. The actual structure of the HEDs comes from the C2 rim.
