28mm tyres question
Hi
I'm thinking to replace my old Michelin Pro Race3 25mm.
In your experience do have Continental 4Season 28mm more comfort than Michelin 25mm?
I like in a tyre comfort and grip.
Thanks

Only if you run them at lower pressure.

i have not ridden either tire but in my experience, wider tires do offer more comfort (as a generality)

You gonna eat that?
I kind of like Schwalbe Marathon Supremes. A little pricey, but light, fast, good traction, comfy and flat protection (thought not quite as good as Marathon Plus).

I have 25mm Conti 4Season right now and they ride great. In fact they ride so gently compared to my previous 23mm tire that I had the 'oh man that tire is surely going flat' feeling for a few rides.
Of course they're not flat. They actually absorb a lot of road buzz and smooth out big hits. I am 175 pounds and ride them at 95F/105R. I have ridden the rear as low as 95 psi without pinch flats, but I didn't like the handling-- felt slow and squishy.
They have very good grip on cold, damp pavement but I still practice (and recommend) caution.
They don't handle as quick or have quite as much grip as other tires I've used for summer, so I am going to switch tires again in the Spring. Oh and I've had zero flats of any kind, but I do use Mr Tuffy ultra light liners. Your mileage may vary.

I just switched from 25mm racing slicks to Continental 4Season 28mm. The 28's are much more comfortable, especially over chip sealed roads. I run them at 85 psi.

Not many can fit them. Most CF frames and forks can only fit up to 25's with reasonable clearance. Al and steel usually can but the fork could still be a problem.

My Litespeed M1 clears the Conti GP4S by a little bit up front, not a lot. The rear looks to be capable of a 28.

I ride a Madone 4.5. The 28's fit, but barely. I had Vittoria 25's on and they are about the same size as the 28's. You couldn't tell a size difference by eyeballing.

I was investigating larger tires for this winter and in what I found Michelin Pro3 25s run almost the same size as Conti 4 Season 28s by most reports. There won't be much "extra volume" from the change.

Here is a good take on wide tires:

If my bike fit them, I would probably go Challenge Parix(Parigi) Roubaix

There are no 30 mm Supremes, only 32 and 28. My 28s seem to run true to declared size both in width and in height on Mavic CXP 22 rims.
This means they are actually larger than most road-specific tires declared as 28 mm wide, so you'll have to make sure your bike has enough clearance for them.

no. i had a michelin 25s on my tandem and later tried a 30 front and 35 rear marathon racer, the 30 wasn't any larger and was much slower feeling and didn't corner well at all.

in my experience all the Contis run small (measure small, or whatever..basically a Conti 25 seems closer to any other brand 23 & conti 28 is closer to any other brand 25). FWIW, I run 23, 25 & 28 on bikes...mostly 23 (that's over probably a dozen or more bikes in regular 'riding' rotation). 25 generally feels like an ideal size, though I've logged a lot of fast miles on 28s also. I run 100-105 psi in general in all of them.

I measure my tires after mounting with a digital caliper. I agree with you-- Continental runs true to size in a few tires, but many of them are slightly small. Vittoria and Michelin frequently run large.

How is the rolling resistance of the 28s compared to the 23s you have been running? In the spring I am going to do a tire change on my Scott CR1 Team, and have been looking at the Conti 4 season tires.

Same brands but different tires...on my Open Pro rims, Michelin Pro Optimums (700x25) ran 26.7mm wide, while Conti Grand Prix (not 4000 series) 700x28s ran 27.9mm. The Contis were somewhat taller as well. Conti Gatorskin 700x25s are 24.3mm wide on the same rims. Michelin Krylion Carbons in 700x25 run 26.7mm wide as well on my RR465 rims.

First, Contis run narrow. Second, installed tire width also depends on rim width. So there is a fighting chance for OP to have these wonderful tires clear the frame. I loooove me my 4-seasons, esp. wet grip and puncture protection - 3 punctures in 2500 mi over some sketchy roads. Very durable too - I expect another 1K out of them.
Good Luck
