Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant RideSense Cadence Sensor (Magnet)

I just picked up a new 2012 Giant Defy Advanced 1, which has the new RideSense sensor. I was able to sync the speed sensor (on the spoke) with my Garmin 500 but am having trouble syncing the cadence sensor. The Garmin recognizes cadence sensor when it's waved by the sensor so I know it works, but the magnet is too far from the sensor when attached to the crank arm.

A Google search did not help. Is there an easily available alternative out there? If you have one of these setup how did you get it to work? Giant has their magnetic sensors for sale internationally but not here in the US. I found a 10mm sensor on a rubber mount made by Bontrager that was ordered by my LBS. If that works I'll update this post.

Hmm...it didn't just work? I have a 2012 Defy Advanced 2 that I stripped down and built up with SRAM Red. Mounted the stock magnet in the right location on the crank arm to properly pass the sensor and it worked perfectly.

Can you post a photo of your setup?

How do you like the bike? I love mine.

The stock Garmin sensor or did Giant include a new sensor?

The one that came with the Giant for the Ride Sense sensor. My bike came with a wheel magnet and crank magnet.
