Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How are the eBay cycling clothes?

I only want opinions from those who have bought directly from China through eBay.

The jersey and bibs are BOTH complete junk and not even worth the very low price. The fit and quality is a mess. It starts falling apart quickly and it fits like 3 different sizes have been stitched together. It looks okay but that's it. I learned my lesson. You can get quality (and real) stuff at very good prices if you wait for previous year closeouts. I've gotten Castelli, Giordana, and Hincapie clothing at bargain prices from Backcountry, Competitive Cyclist, and Chainlove. You just have to be patient and look for the sales.

Yes, I made the mistake ordering eBay kit two years ago

As it was mentioned the size is completely off. The fit is terrible. For example, I ordered small size jersey, but it was shorter than normal and wider than normal. The sleeves are too big. Contacted the seller, they returned the money, but kept shipping. The bibs are ok, but only for the short rides (up to 35-40 miles) But I got few more pairs since than, and never choose them from the drawer.

Then I realized, that cycling clothes last for years, so I paid $10 or $15 more for Castelli jersey, bought performance bibs (they are more expensive)

I will never buy another eBay clothes.

most of the knock offs are poorly made, and fit is a crapshoot. It's worth spending the extra money in my opinion to get the real deal.
Also buy full zip jersey's. 3/4 zip suck to get off when you are sweaty.

Got an ebay kit and it's held up for a year and a half now.. shorts/jersey/cap/arm and leg warmers. The fit is spot on as well, but I'd bet I got lucky. That's it in the avatar pic.

The jersey I bought is a tight XL, so I would go a size up if buying again (though I probably won't), but it's comfortable, full zip, breathable and gets me through any rides I do.

I'd say it's worth it if you really want team-branded gear and don't want to pay $90+, which, lets be honest, is steep. However, a couple of weeks after placing my order, I got an e-mail from eBay saying, basically, "we've removed this listing for whatever reason, if you don't receive your item, we'll send you a refund." It arrived a couple of days later, presumably it had already shipped before eBay shut the listing down. I don't think you can guarantee that eBay will always be so understanding to customers that jump on "too good to be true" prices like that.

If you don't want team-branded, just buy your LBS's own jersey or pick up a beer jersey at your local brewery. Or go plain. Or wear one from a century you rode. Or grab something off the clearance rack at Performance. Whatever.

My wife got me 2 bibs from a Chinese exporter called Zimco. 50-50. The sizing on one is off (too big) but the other has a nice tight fit and with a handful of rides seems OK. Quality seems decent but they don't have many rides yet. I just got some close-out Cannondale bibs from Nashbar that are much better but for the price Zimco might be an alternative if you can't find a sale.

These are not the team branded stuff.

Bought a few from China on E-Bay and great clothing. I would assume they make all the clothing for every brand you buy here in the states for inflated ridiculous prices but for much cheaper! And really coming from China it took about 2.5 weeks to get to the east coast to me.

Like Walter stated above I have also bought Zimco brand as well. They run small to me so buy a size or 2 bigger! Their jerseys are sport cut however so beware of that. Bu thank God all my many years of lifting I have that V-shape so they don't look like a sagging muffin top on me!

We had to ask a friend to save his ebay kits for solo rides. The cheap fabric is too sheer.

It's hard to miss the grand canyon when you're not driving the pace line.

So I got curious to Assos and Voler and Assos made in Switzerland and Voler the US. Man I was surprised. But none the less, the China made stuff has been great so far so regardless, I try to buy my clothing line cheaper and have money for other things like bike upgrades. So I stand corrected on those two brands

Any other name brands with country of origin would be nice to see posted here for all to see...........

I bought a Cervelo kit 2 years ago thinking I'd just throw it out in a few months. The jersey has been totally fine - no problems whatsoever. The bottoms were a bit more problematic - the thigh areas started to lose coloring despite minimal friction to the surface, and they honestly weren't that comfortable, so those did get tossed after about 4 months. I wouldn't use the bibs/bottoms again, but the jersey tops were fine - same thickness as the LBS jerseys (to my disappointment to the local LBS.)

Jerseys are fine, I no longer buy brand name jerseys when Chinese jerseys does the same for $20. The newer ones from 2013 onward are much better than my 2011 ones, the latter ones were quite sheer and thin.

I will not buy bibs, they just don't use quality chamois.

Cheap crap, to answer your question.

You can't get something for nothing.

From my collection:

Giordana, Capo and Santini are from Italy
Craft is from China
Mt Borah is from the US
Mavic is from Romania
Castelli is from everywhere except China (US, Malaysia, Eastern Europe, El Salvador, Macau)
Etxe Ondo is from Spain
Campagnolo is from Croatia

Some of this gear is getting a bit old so production may have moved for some companies. YMMV.

I have two kits from China off Ebay. The graphics are great. The chamois has been as good or better than bibs I've paid over $100 for. The spandex on the bibs are not going to last very long as the quality is not as good as what you'd find on a good name brand. The legs are tight right at the gripper on the thigh but not prohibitively so. For $40 all in, the jersey is worth it even if the bibs go bad; they seem to be as good a quality as anything I've had in the $60-$100 range. YMMV

Why were you shocked? Lycra isn't rocket science. There is very little sewing labor in cycling clothes. They are not lined. They should be very inexpensive, but they are not. The only technology is usually in the "chamois". The prices that are charged should easily support US and European labor costs.
