Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My condolences, it does suck. That's not a poem, it's a song lyric, the link to the song is at the top.

Poems are skull****ed, but you need them for song lyrics.

I am working from 9 to 6 on Saturday so I can "get a feel for the weekend traffic in Sporting Goods" and as I was leaving today I asked the person I'll be working with if he'd like me to bring donuts in. He said "You're trying to soften me up already. You must not be planning on doing any work at all Saturday." I said "Hey. If that's the way you feel about it..." He said "Hold on a minute. I'm just kidding you. I'd never say 'no' to donuts." I couldn't pin him down on a preferred kind so I guess I'll just get a half dozen and we can fight over them.

I have no idea how the guys in the department feel about my two weeks of training with them but I have really enjoyed getting to know Sporting Goods so far. I sold three fishing licenses without a hitch today so I'm getting that down. Still haven't been fingerprinted so the guns are out of the question. But the most fun has been picking the brains of the customers about why they're buying what they are and how things work. We have a brand on the shelves called Powerbait and they have a product called "trout dough". Nearly all of it is brightly colored and a lot of it has glitter in it. One variety is called and looks like "chunky cheese" and it says "natural garlic smell" on the label. Now, as a person, I would be all over this stuff. But I couldn't figure out why fish would like it. I asked a trout fisherman and he said it's because they've usually never seen it or smelled it and that makes them curious so they come over to check it out. (Garlic also covers the human smell.) He said they also love anise. Doesn't that mean you should be able to catch fish with a bag of Red Vines or Twizzlers and an old piece of pizza?

Guitar playing and cycling tend to be mutually conflicting hobbies for a number of reasons.

Regardless, more gigs coming up. I'll have to try to keep the cycling going.

...I think you have just invented the Borschtini. It ought to be very popular in the Crimea, at the beach resorts there.

beetroot seems to over-power anything I have mixed it with. The best I can do is mix beetroot juice with carrot juice. That is ok....ish. I once drank a pint of the stuff and nearly fainted. It really is great for lowering blood pressure.

Are you brave enough to try my cayenne cure? Seriously, this will clear you out in seconds.

Teaspoon of cayenne pepper in cup of warm water. Make sure it is very warm. Drink it fast. You will spurt mucous like something out of ghost busters.

Make no mistake, both these pursuits are good for my head. But it's the cycling that keeps me sane.
