Do you switch helmets with season?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you switch helmets with season?

Love my light giro aeon for summer. Wondering if another helmet would work better in late fall/early winter. ?

I do. I go with my lightest, coolest helmet in summer, an Uvex Boss Race, and as it cools, switch to the Dux Helm with the integrated lens, a feature which helps retain warmth, but I also like using the yellow, hi-contrast lens for the darker, overcast days. Really cold winter days I'll use a thin balaclava and perhaps a rain cover on the Dux, or switch to a yet a third helmet, a commuter/urban style that has little venting, more coverage, and with which can accomodate ski goggles.

I do, comfy helmet for summer, comfy helmet that's slightly larger and fits over a beanie for winter.

I keep thinking that when one gets damaged I'll just replace them both with one helmet that will work with or without a beanie, but I haven't had any crashes yet.

I picked up an Air Attack shield last winter. It was great with cold weather and most of spring but when it turned warm, that helmet was too warm for me. So I keep it for cool weather. I always had problems with my sunglasses not fitting right with a skull cap. No issues with the attack.

No, you adjust what you wear under the helmet depending on the weather. I was *freezing* on my night time commute home until I started wearing a thermal skull cap. It made a world of difference. My thighs no longer were cold after the 40 minute ride home. I am now comfortable down to 37ºF.

I stick with the same helmet regardless of the season. Winter time I just wear more clothing.

Aeon in the summer, air attack in the winter.

I kind of want to pick up the new synthe tho, maybe I'll use that for spring and fall.

I like to go with pastels or floral patterns in the spring and summer. For autumn and winter I favor browns, greys and plaids...

I switched helmets when I lived in Canada. I had a yellow one with lots of ventilation for summer, and a slightly larger (so I could wear a balaclava or headband under) blue one with less ventilation for winter.

I got a liner that came with an old Giro helmet to block the vents. It works great and eliminates need for skullcaps until it's colder than freezing.

That's very convenient. If necessary, you could ride in the refrigerator.

I guess I gotta park my all white Sidi Ergo's?

Giro air attack shield is my go to, but grab my Aeon when I know the temps will climb above 80f.

I don't have extra money for a second helmet. When I lived in Michigan, I had a cover to close up the vents. I also wore a balaclava under when it was really cold.

Now I switch helmets to match the bicycle I'm riding.

That said, I need a British Racing Green helmet.

YES, I change from a road helmet to a MTB helmet. Also change the bike from a road bike to a MTB.

You wear a skullcap on your thighs?

No. I discovered the truth about losing body heat through you head is true. Or rather an uncovered head does not keep warmth in. I truly was surprised that my legs were warmer just by adding head covering!
