Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for a good road bike on a budget

Hello all,

I am looking to upgrade (i currently have a Fuji Sportif 2.1 with tiagra) I have $1500.00 to spend. I am looking for 105 or Ultegra, full carbon. I don't do much climbing, I live in Kansas so no mountain passes here

My LBS has a 2015 Kestrel Talon, and a bunch of Fuji Altamira's, SST's and Transonic's. Any suggestions? Is the Kestrel any good? The Kestrel is less ($1399.99) than the Fuji's (that are all a little out of my price range $1799.99-$1999.99) to me it looks like a good deal.

Thanks for the help!

Bikes Direct sells the Kestrel for 1399 as well. So if they're going to fit you and tune it for the same price, I'd say it's decent deal. Both the Fuji and Kestrel are nice bikes but not exactly cutting edge stuff. But certainly nice bikes. I'd happily ride either one.

Is there anything better in that price range than the Fuji's or Kestrel? I open to any suggestions.

Thank you!

Not carbon, but consider a CAAD.

At this time last year, in store, Performance had some Al bikes with 105 shifting for under $1,000. They were nicely put together.

A friend who lives in Charleston, SC has been looking for his first road bike and found a Madone and a Felt F5, both with 105, for under your $1500 budget. There are deals out there.
