Well I got the bottom bracket off and put on the new rear derailleur. It's english threading and the derailleur seems to work, so I'm kind of encouraged but at the same time I still need new wheels...

I'm committed to the 2x8 now. The new rear derailleur might just work, I just screwed in an old acera and it screwed in at least but it's also all bent up so I don't know what the alignment looks...
