No, I haven't seen one of those. This is the locknut for the cone-a regular but thinnish nut that is used to hold the bearing adjustment in place.

Rear QR hub locknut broken

I picked up a 70's Schwinn Super Sport for $15 a while back. While doing a simple hub bearing adjustment, the locknut broke-simple as that-snapped clear through.
I was putting a bit of force on it...

Vintage road to Cyclocross conversion

I'm thinking about building up my 1972 Schwinn Super Sport as a cyclocross bike, possibly singlespeed (it's set up as fixed with a front brake now, and I'm not sure what shape the derailleur hanger...

In retrospect, my best move (which did not occur to me at the time) may have been to pass to the other lane; it was a one-way street. I could not pull over, as there were cars parked on both sides; I...

Tailgating

While I rode home today, a car followed me something like 10 feet behind me, while I was going about 18 mph. Speed limit was 20. I motioned to them to back off, but to no avail. It was for a few...

Just kidding.

Well, just get padding from the top tube/handlebars of some kids bike and duct-tape it onto your top cap then. Simple.

Just kidding ;) I see your point.

Bicycle Blue Book

Has anybody used Bicycle Blue Book (bicyclebluebook.com) before? Is it accurate? Looks like a good resource, if only to find information about a bike, even disregarding the price recommendations.

Shortening steerer tubes isn't really a problem... if you're worried about adjustability, just put the spacers on top of the stem, and you don't need to cut it. It might look funny but you won't need...

I have quick releases, however I think I might switch to solid axle. Just out of curiosity, is there any reason you would want to adjust your bearings while the wheel was still in the frame? Besides...
