The shifter I got from ebay was already broken in the same way mine is.

Luckily the seller accepts returns. I'm just going to have to buy a brand new one. I should have done that to begin...

I must say, this entire thread makes me so happy I live in Hawaii. If someone gave grief over cycling (or anything for that matter), they would be looked at like a bad work place citizen.

Thanks for the information. I'm really surprised it took me ten years to screw up like this, just goes to show, you can do something for a long time and it works fine even though you probably aren't...

That makes a lot of sense, even though I never adjusted the upper or lower adjustment screws from their factory setting. Since it is shifting properly with me just holding the cable, I'll try it...

Well, got it unjammed. Just threading a cable through it and holding a few pounds pressure on the cable and working through the gears it seems to function properly. I guess I'll try to set it up...

If it's jammed from a too tight cable, is there any way to unjam it? I took the shifter off the bar, and removed the rubber hood.

I had gotten the Ultegra a piece at a time from...
  8. Shimano 6703 shifter lasted 2 weeks. Don't know what happened.

(First off, I will be contacting Shimano tomorrow to return the shifter for warranty replacement.) EDIT: *Still going to call, but acknowledge this is my fault.* I thought I would write it up here...

I have about 2,000 miles on my DA 9000 with no cable problems. I find that my hands go numb faster using this set much faster than my 6700. Other than that I love it.

I got a 2014 Tricross at my LBS yearly 20% off sale. I swapped out the Sora for an Ultegra 6703 set I had, and left the Avid BB7 brakes. Velo Transit Panniers.

I have a Tricross and I love it. On my fast commute days I ride a titanium racing frame with Dura Ace 9000, and when I ride the tricross I'm only about 10 minutes slower on a 20 mile trip. It's very...

I just thought of something. This bike purchase that I am sweating over, is worth about 3 months of my wife's driving to work costs. I haven't driven to work or home from it in 3 years last week....

Should I make some sort of controversial statement in order to garner an opinion? Something like, "skinny tires are for heros, fat tires are for zeros?"

  20. Picking up a new bike, have a question on how to reorganize

My LBS is having their yearly sale soon, and I've picked out a Specialized Tri Cross Elite with 10 spd Tiagra and BB7 brakes that I think I'll end up getting out the door for around $1100. I am...

I guess first I'll need to find out what the fee is going to be to fly with my bike, but with so many reports of TSA vandalized people's property, it seems like a gamble. I'm going to start keeping...
  22. Traveling from Hawaii to Raleigh NC for a couple weeks in June

Should I try to ship my bike, rent one, or bring mine on the plane? I looked into renting one in Raleigh, and it's about $250 a week. I can't justify spending that much money, but I really don't want...
