Ambrosio wheel won't mount...

oh well, thanks to everybody who informed me about this thing. How some of them are jacked and won't mount the tire on them. Brand new wheel and hub never ridden (now i see why) so i guess i just get the hub out and put the hoop on my wall or in the trash can? It seems nearly impossible to mount, i didn't even try because i couldn't get one side of the tire on by hand. I didn't pay too much for it so i'm not too stressed on it. Thanks!

Ambrosio clincher rims are a PITA. But some tires do go on a bit easier. You can always keep trying till you find one that works.

I about peeled the skin off my thumbs mounting 700x28s on my sons old Mavic rims, that's when the guys at the LBS showed me the rim jack, no problems since then.

This rim jack looks essential, i need this for my campagnolo wheels but i'm almost sure the ambrosio will not get a tire on it.

Ambrosio rims were notorious for not having a deep enough "well" in the tube area to allow for tire mounting. I change tires on just about every other rim without tools, but I tell everyone with Ambrosio rims to buy a different set of wheels. Its not that it can't be done, but fixing a flat roadside will screw you down the line. Some parts are just engineered by s#!t heads. When you have to shop for tires that will fit the rims, you have s#!t for rims

Dump the rims and replace them with something engineered by someone with a brain.

Please feel free to forward this post to all Ambrosio's distributors....

I managed to get a set of folding bead pasela's on my ambrosios. It was not an easy task. Since mounting them, I have fixed two flats and it is a PITA. If I had another set of wheels I would ditch em. They are nice looking though.;

i recently had a tire/rim combo that demanded tire irons to put ONE bead over one rim wall. and then i needed reinforced tire irons. broke one. but after forcing them both on without a tube or rim tape and letting them sit for a month or so and then dismounting them and stretching the teflon beads on the tires with 25 lbs of weight for a couple of months, i can now mount them by hand.

folding tires stretch and stay stretched!!!

Mine seem alright (Elite Durex 19s), and I am using 700x28 Gatorskins on them (wire bead). A pair of pedros levers works fine to get them on/off, though they are tighter than my other set of wheels with MA40s. Previously these had Specialized Turbos (700x25) on them.

Loosen the spokes first before removing the hub since clipping the spokes with tension on them is dangerous to both you and the hub.

I'm looking for a front sprint hub so if you're looking to trade it off, PM me or something.

I have the same rim as you, the elite 19's, i guess i will remove the hub and trade it if Iowegian has some goodies.

Try one of these:

https://www.rei.com/product/627610/cr...rs-speed-lever

Best $8 I ever spent after several failed attempts trying to mount 700x28 Gatorskins on my Elite Durex 19s. Another plus is that it's small enough to store in your seat bag.

OMG. I spent 30 mins trying to get a tire OFF an ambrosio rim on my husband's bike. When I bought new tires, I asked the LBS guy to put them on because I could go through that. He got a set of Zaffiro Slicks on there with bare hands, so maybe try those?

The rim tape was also extremely thick on them which definitely added to the difficulty. He reckoned that thinner tape should help.
