So yeah, apparently some jive turkeys jumped the fence at the velodrome to hold some sort of ******** skid contest... yet another reason for me to hate on skidding and trick riding.

Out of all the places where skidding does no real damage, like sidewalks and parking lots, they choose our beloved Velodrome. Idiots.

As someone who actually races track, this pisses me off because the SD Velodrome Association just paid a pretty penny to have the track repainted, giving the racers and spectators crisp and clean lines to stare at while the racing was going down. They did this for Collegiate nationals, and cannot afford to do it again for a long time.

Now the front stretch, where this "contest" or whatever was held, looks like garbage; as you can imagine. Thanks jerks.

If I had to venture a guess, I would imagine these people to be a: in one of the many ******** bike "gangs" that have sprouted up like weeds in this city. b: the losers who show up on race night, only to hang out on the outside of the fence and not watch the races. c: a combination of the two.

If any of you are out there, realize that if you get caught, you are facing jail time. You not only trespassed, but you vandalized city property, which turns felonious awfully quickly. I hope it was worth it, and you feel great about yourselves.

It should, even if you are right and it doesn't. The guys who did this were total d*cks. Legally, they deserve the book to be thrown at them. Morally, they deserve an ass whooping. Fixed gear riders messing up a velodrome is wrong on so many levels.

I think these quotes from forum members here are indicative of the problem that led to a bunch of asshats trashing your track.

Come on guys. Are these the kind of responses you'd want to read if somebody vandalized your bike? Your home? Track racers put a lot of heart and sweat into their velodromes.

Their is nothing cool about this brand of apathy or snarkiness. Period.

i bet whoever did it didn't realize what they were doing. i mean, they knew they were breaking in to the velodrome to do some skids (haha, right? right...?), but they didn't realize the cost to the velodrome - either in repainting, in cleaning the skids off, or in the extent to which it would disrupt the racers.

does that make them any less accountable? no. but maybe there's a really good solution that does involve cleaning, repainting, and educating these bike gangs over there that it really sucks to lay down skid marks at the velodrome.

hope you find them. hope it doesn't turn felonious, and that you can show them the error of their ways, and that you can get to a workable solution.

there are plenty of each on either side of the issue. this has to do with action, i could care less what another rider thinks of me, or what their pants are made out of, or how much water they drink for a ride, or how heavy their bike is... it comes down to jackasses doing something bad and responsible people enjoying their rights.

to illustrate my point: i raced in an alleycat(not legal but in my opinion moral as long as you're not being dangerous about it), but i didn't steal the streetlight bulb that would have gotten me 10 points because i knew i wasn't going to put it back and i didn't want to endanger anyone by casting darkness over them. was i contributing to the group that promoted such possibly dangerous acts? sure... but that's like saying every policeman encourages racist police brutality. which is kinda pointless and irrelevant. sure you can change the system, be it law enforcement or social groups within the cycling community, but that's not really what needs to be addressed here... directly harmful action is what's gotta stop.

if a guy at a velodrome calls me a poser that's fine, but if he does something equally harmful and unjust as skidding on a velodrome, that's a problem. i hope they catch who did it, and i hope people get their heads right and start in with some Tao.

Based on the OP, it sounds like the vandals must have noticed the damage they were causing and chose to proceed with causing more damage.

You sure are quick to throw some names out there. Some of those "gangs" are people attempting to put the bikes back on the street and push for rights of cyclist..

Though I agree that who ever did the damage needs to be held accountable.

But, I think it is poor form to throw names out there.
