I think these quotes from forum members here are indicative of the problem that led to a bunch of asshats trashing your track.
Come on guys. Are these the kind of responses you'd want to read if somebody vandalized your bike? Your home? Track racers put a lot of heart and sweat into their velodromes.

Equating a velodrome with a person's home is indicative of the kind of overly-serious assessment that leads to a person forgetting that we're talking about rubber marks on the ground. If you think the two situations are equivalent, then your priorities are sadly distorted.
What the skidders did is disrespectful and rude, but it's not the crime of the century, so let's have some perspective. People making light-hearted comments on a forum board isn't evidence of criminal proclivity...what happened sucks for the OP, and truly, he has my deepest sympathies, but let's try to keep things civil and avoid another 'legitimate riders vs fixie poseurs' dick-waving contest.

Is it really vandalism if they didnt know they were doing it?
Regardless...i dont think its as big of a deal as or worth comparing to someone vadalizing my HOME. Thats just a ****ing stupid analogy all together.
At least they didnt spray stupid tags all over the banks.
My home city spent $500,000 on a rad concrete skate park and the first week it was open some crack monkeys sprayed some of the worst looking graf ive ever seen in my life all over it.

it is. charitable on the assumption that jumping to conclusions or pushing for further conflict could make things worse. charitable in the hope that these dicks can be held accountable in a way that makes good things come of it. ya know, how gandhi would say things like "don't bring your enemies to their knees - bring them to their senses."

that's a freaking awesome ghandi quote.
the 'non-valid analogies' are also bad because a velodrome is city and public; a private home or bike is not.
if it was not intentional then it's not vandalism, but it's still willful destruction of public property not implicit in the proper use of the property, and should be legally prosecuted.
basically, whether or not they were trying to **** up the velo's surface, or their ignorance, shouldn't really matter. "oh, i didn't know i wasn't supposed to write graffiti on that wall, it looked like a canvas to me."

If I had to venture a guess, I would imagine these people to be a: in one of the many ******** bike "gangs" that have sprouted up like weeds in this city. b: the losers who show up on race night, only to hang out on the outside of the fence and not watch the races. c: a combination of the two.

on the bright side, there are velodromes out there that will never EVER be as nice as yours, regardless of skidding. i can understand why you're upset, but there's so much worse that coulda happened. i was expecting uprooted fencing, broken bottles, chunks taken out of the surface and so forth.
as far as i know, skid marks aren't gonna ruin your performance unless it was through wet paint and now your stayer's line is all wonky. but i dunno, the velodrome i ride got more crack than the Clipse discography..

Also maybe get some people to pitch in for a reward for solid information on who did this **** and post it on craigslist. Any group of people who are rat enough to pull a stunt like this might have at least one rat willing to sell them out.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that this is not true. I think that malicious intent while committing vandalism might aggravate the charge, but [as in the case of murder, assault, etc] not committing a crime 'intentionally' doesn't excuse one from culpability...regardless, as you said, both are technically a crime.
I'm me ain't no lawyer neither, i'm be a *****-fied english major.
wiki calls it "the conspicuous defacement or destruction of a structure, a symbol or anything else that goes against the will of the owner/governing body" and that conspicious word is where the intention comes in. they go on to say that in criminal stuff, "Private citizens commit vandalism when they wilfully damage or deface the property of others or the commons"
the nature of whether or not it's a crime is different, obviously intention doesn't matter on whether or not the destructive act is a crime or not, it's just a different crime and not called vandalism.
like i said, semantics.

I agree, and speaking only for myself, that was never the intent on my message. I just meant that there's already budding growing of fixed gear cycling among the larger cycling community, and stories like this is going to be passed around the internet, swapped over the counter and bike shops, and repeated on group rides ad nauseum. This will just serve to validate their budding opinions, because of overly emotional titles like this one.

I believe some people posted about doing this in one of vomitrons threads last year. I think he pointed out the insurance nightmare that would result if something went wrong. Unless they actually chipped the new paint that seems like a much bigger issue. The marks while ugly should be gone by next season unless they make it a regular thing.

The fact that they either couldn't realize or ignored any of the reasons why hopping the fence and skidding on the track was a bad idea pretty much guarantees they are a bunch of self-entitled ****s whether or not they knew that skid marks would mess up the paint.

meh, pointing fingers for this online is kinda like ************-level pointless.
some of the people may be guilty but you have no proof, others are just speaking their dumb minds, and still others will falsely confess just to get a rise out of people.
annnnnnnd thread dies... in 5... 4... 3...
