I have a 1996 ProFlex beast (https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...east&Type=bike) sitting in my parent's attic and I was wondering if I could get anything for it.

My father bought it for me in the fall of '96 when I was 12. It was way more bike than I needed at the time but he was always excited at an excuse to buy sweet ****. But now I'm a former spoiled kid turned working class adult and elementary special ed doesn't pay too well and i've got a road bike on layaway at the LBS.

Like I said it was alot of bike for me and I never did any serious trail riding on it, just bombed around the neighborhood for the most part. In my late adolescence the bike was essentially forgotten and left to sit around for years. It's in pretty mint shape and it has actual springs in the suspension, not those bushings that are all rock hard and irreplaceable these days. I saw one that sold on ebay for a pretty penny but it had some aftermarket wheels which may have contributed to the high selling price.

I'll put some pics up in the next day or two if it seems worth it. Just thought i'd see what y'all had to say.

Not really...could be wrong though. I really, really wanted one back in the day. Depending on the cond...possibly 2 or 3 bills on ebay or craigslist.

Sadly, no. And the Girvin/Noleen shocks (for the parallelogram girder front and rear) were proprietary to it so reviving them if they are tired might be out of the question - - although I believe you can get a Risse Racing (affectionately referred to as those "stoners from Redding," I believe, by a certain BF contributor) shock made for it still.

I recall having a "Superheroes"-inspired lust for a K2 Animal back in the day.

I rode a Proflex 2000 for 10 years before it broke. I did put a Risse rear shock on it and 3 different forks. I heard you can get Noleen shocks rebuilt now. When I tried Noleen said 'no way'.
Why not keep it for bad weather and trail riding?

I have 5 Proflex 856's and a K2 4000 and let me tell you, parts for these bikes are easy to come by on CL and eBay. If you find the right buyer and your bike is nice, $200-300 is a possibility. But often those buyers are few and far between, and instead bikes go unsold.

Case in point: a guy posted an 856 to DC Craigslist and I responded...he only wanted $150 for it, but the components were lower than spec and I pased, but left the door open for a later deal. Well, this week he got back in touch and offered it for $75, which I snapped up. Sure, the components are lower end, but the frame and fork are great, and will sit in reserve for my 856s with vintage XTR, Ti springs and Mavic 618s.
