Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cycling-related 2013 Resolutions

Let's hear 'em.

Last year (Dec 31, 2011) I quit smoking and it stuck.

For 2013: I resolve to ride 175 miles a week and a century a month.

Next?

To stick to my training and try not to miss any days, race as much as possible, and have fun of course!

+1. I always made poor excuses in 2012 to skip out on some ride, so I'm hoping to up the mileage this year. I like the century a month idea too! Also going to post in the forums more. Might as well quit lurking.

Ride 150 to 200 miles a week and spend less money on bike. But I really want a Go Pro hero so If I can get away with just buying that I would be pleased. Lots of base miles and get my average speed up to 20mph would be nice but I will stick to the milage and see what happens

I plan to work extra hard to come up with a rationalization to purchase a powertap. I've been working on t for teh past several years, but keep coming up short.

I'd really like to get back into Randonneuring again, and see if I can break the 400K barrier again. 2007 was the last time I was able to do that distance (life, medical issues, etc. have got in the way).

But since I have no idea where we'll be, or what we'll be doing, in 2013 (aside from finishing our current Round-the-World tour, and returning to Australia mid-January) ... who knows if I'll even be in a place where there are Randonneuring events.

I just bought my first road bike (it was a combined present for Christmas/my birthday + I still have to pay), so I guess the first resolution is to ride it a lot and get better with it.

My main resolution for next year: Reduce my car driving by 50%. From a current stand point, I think it'll be very do-able. I only drive 2 places every week when at college: the grocery store, and DQ for a hangout. If I can move to riding to these two weekly, I'll be doing phenomenal.

Great ideas. So far, this has to be the most difficult. Even harder than quitting smoking is spending less on cycling while upping miles. Good luck to you.

Ride more (duh).

Don't let work interupt my riding agenda as much as it did this year.

Be in better shape when next cross season starts instead of waiting until I have already done 3 or 4 races before getting my act together like I did in 2012.

Do more mountain biking.
Find a regular fast-ish group ride to do. I need to find some new routes and a group that will push me a little.
Get rid of bikes I don't ride.
Build up a nice 4 season road bike.
