Did you ever wonder why people let air out of their race wheels when not in use?
It comes from the olden days and silks. It is pointless now but then the belief was that leaving them inflated would stretch the casing. I'm not sure if it's true or not but that was what was done and why many still do it.

With a lever actuated derailleur, I think you get a pass on using a disc to keep the chain out of the spokes.

I had fun a couple days ago. My girlfriend and I were riding our $300 road bikes at a snail's pace. A bike racer whipped by us. I caught up to him and challenged him to a race to the small hill about a kilometer away. He confidently agreed. He increased his speed to lead-out speed. I sat on his wheel. At the last moment, I whipped by him and beat him to the top of the hill by several bike lengths. His excuse was that he just rode 100 miles.
He was riding an expensive road bike with carbon wheels. He is a lean 20-something bike racer, probably cat 2. I was riding a heavy $300 aluminum mail order bike with downtube shifters, toe clips, toe straps, $10 sneakers from Walmart, and baggy sweatpants. I am a 188-pound 44-year-old who has not raced since 1991. I beat him despite the fact that my chain skipped because I need a new chain and cassette. It is very enjoyable to ride faster than guys who have expensive bikes.
To be honest, I did have to stop after the sprint to rest because I felt like my lungs collapsed.

It's a pretty good troll, I will grant you that. I think it would have been more effective if you hadn't invent an imaginary category for him and if you had kept the fact that you used to race under wraps. The baggy sweats and the $10 sneakers were a nice touch though. I give it a 7.6 out of 10.

Interesting. In that case, I challenge anyone on this thread to sprints. Best 2 out of 3 wins $200 from the loser. Each race will be one kilometer. I live near Fresno. I will use my $300 aluminum bike with downtube shifters. You can use any bike you wish as long as it does not have a motor, battery, or fairing. I reserve the right to use cycling shoes instead of sneakers. And I will wear cycling shorts instead of sweats.
To be eligible, you must have already posted on this thread. I don't want you to recruit the best sprinter you know.

Kilometers and miles in the same story - something's fishy here
