Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? A strap-on?...or paint it green and put it on a purple bike and I'll make you a Teenage sticker, and you can get rims that look like turtle shells...

Easton EC70 bonded carbon stem, it's a $200 stem that I snagged for $30 (and there are still some left!) at cambriabicycle's website

Black FSA zero-stack'r for the Leader

Newbaum's black cotton bar tape to throw on the Nitto's

And picked up one of these guys in black, too.

Not one for color-coding siq fixie partz but once I look at my parts box and realized damn near everything on the new spring build is gonna be black I did pat myself on the back a bit, hopefully it'll look cool. More importantly, it'll hopefully ride well.

We will see... we will definitely see... I figured I would give it a shot, if it fails then I know never go to that route again...if it works then sweet! it's purple! But I am not a huge skidder, so I don't see it having any problems.

if it fails, you might have a bum wheel on your hands.

Bike theft is minimal here. I see bikes not locked up in the same spot for days at a time. I would never do that, but it's common with the Nexts, Magnas, etc. The knowledge of value is sad. A few times, I've forgotten and only locked the wheel to the frame while I'm at the gym. No bites.

with careful installation, an alloy lockring can be fine for street use, but you know.

It's going on a $20 IRO hub, laced with $20 spokes...It won't be the end of the world if it fails guys, and they wouldn't make a product if it couldn't stand up to riding

Shoot! I should probably return that Rear Spinergy I was planning on putting on my new PK Ripper along with the aluminum lockring...

I understand how aluminum+steel can be quite iffy, but I'm willing to go with it and try it out. It's not going on my main wheelset.

Nah don't sweat about it too much as long as its properly installed, but there is still the void in durability created by aluminum being the material nonetheless.

I'm even thinking of doing this as my first wheel build.
