I wouldn't buy it. Not worth it to me in that shape. I would buy new, not NJS, if it was my money. Buying NJS is BS in my book. Unless you race keirin, it doesn't mean **** to a person using a bike on the street. If you plan on buying and riding on the street for longer distances, get a bike that actually fits you.
I don't see anything that would keep the bike from being useable as pictured.

when it comes to frames, though, a samson is a good handbuilt columbus tubing frame-- njs or not. this frame is going to be on par or of better quality than a bob jackson vigorelli, bareknuckle, supercorsa-- which is why this is a bargain.
njs has nothing to do with this, it's the samson name you have to consider.

incidentally, there are other samsons that might be closer to your size here:

the color of the pink is really cool, but a good fit is a good fit.

quality build, sure, but importance diminishes if the tubes are rusted inside.
I'm going to guess that the frame isnt straight from some japanese velodrome as they'd like you to believe; the frame has probably been owned by some dude that works at chari & co or someone's friend. probably locked-up, ridden in rain and snow and salt for a couple years without being framesaved. the dude is looking to unload it to fund a bob jackson, bareknuckle, supercorsa, or a sweet road bike to follow the trend away from track bikes.

no, i agree- internal rust is a deal breaker, which is why i mentioned the framesaver earlier. i wouldn't have expected a shop to ask that price for a rusted frame, but i'm not familiar with that shop either.
the white cloth trick is a good idea.

I would never, ever, pay that much for a bike that has a dent in it, I don't care what kind it is.

it's his opinion that matters in the end. looks aren't something he needs advice on, and really shouldn't be the determining factor. all things considered, frame material and build quality should come way before paint color or decals.

That seat cluster on the Panasonic is sick.

it's scary how little intelligence you need to disperse an uninformed opinion globally in fractions of a second...
(by the way, what is a track framer anyway?)

Hey murfman, also compare with https://njs-keirin.blogspot.com/. There's usually a few Samson's on this site on any given day. The price seems fairly typical for such a frame in that condition. I can understand wanting to have a bike that looks a little broken in when riding and, I assume, locking up in NYC. I have to agree that the frame's probably on the small size for you. I'm 5'11" and a 55cm track frame (c-t) with 90mm stem fits me just right.

The prices on these frames are absurd... The njs/keirinblogspot whatever guys are selling used Kalavinkas for more than I paid for my custom Kalavinka including shipping from Japan. Several hundred more!

^^^^When was this???
Anyway, I wouldn't buy this. I hesitated at buying my Samson for 45000YEN (no dents, and it fits me), but I ended up getting in the end. If you're hard 4 NJS why would u not save up a little more and get the Panasonic that fits you, and is new.

It sucks that it is dented but that is why it is so cheap. I know that $750 isn't cheap to most people but withtout the dent, that thing would hit $1200 on ebay with at least 35 bidders; people are just that stupid.
So yeah, get a Panasonic, there are a million different colours to choose from and those fast-back seat-stays are just too cool.
