A friend and myself are traveling down to San Jose and Los Angeles and bringing our bikes from Seattle. Only problem is, we dont know whats up around those areas (cycling wise).

So..if anyone lives in either of these cities and feels like being a tour guide for a day or two, message me.
Or a better question is: what weekly (if any) rides are going on in these cities?
What are some good bike shops to visit?
Fun trails?
Scenic routes or just plain city riding?...Whatever it is, we just want to have a good time somewhere new.

The only ride we know of in LA is Wolfpack Hustle, which we're planning on doing. Other than that, were open to any other cycling related ideas in either city.
We will be in the Pasadena neighborhood in LA if it makes any difference. San Jose Im not sure yet.
Ive checked out SJfixed but it requires a membership, mine is currently pending, but figured Id ask here first. Hope some of you guys can give us some good suggestions

Are you looking for more hustle rides or chill social rides? You can also check out LAfixed and Midnight Ridazz. There are weekly rides around, but I don't know anything about Pasadena. You can try out the LA river bike path or San Gabriel River trail

Wolfpack Hustle will be an awesome experience. Riders from all over the city do it, so you can get a lot of info from the people there. One of the original guys of Midnight Ridazz does Wolfpack, he goes by Roadblock.

Were cool with either.We would like to meet people who might be down to show us around or something too. A couple hustle rides would be ideal but were happy with anything. Im pretty excited on Wolfpack, and yeah I forgot to mention Ive heard of Midnight Ridazz. I have yet to check that out. I know there are a couple rides going on in San Jose but I have yet to discover them.
As far as Pasadena, I mainly just meant thats where we'd be...Im not entirely sure how to get around in LA via bike (when I lived there I drove everywhere).

The subway will get you from pasadena to downtown la easily. Everything else is to figure out just by mapquesting or google maps.

although i'm from san jose, i don't know whether there are any regular/weekly rides up there. i don't really see anything regular posted on sjfixed other than alleycats/special rides/events. there's also the sj bike party (kinda like midnightridazz) that takes place on the 3rd friday of each month i believe. there are a lot of scenic routes though, maybe a search on bikely or mapmyride will turn up some results.

as for LA, there's midnightridazz for chill social rides, and there's fixed gear rides on LAfixed. many of the LAfixed weekly rides are also posted on MR, though, so definitely look at the MR ride calendar. pay attention to the ride descriptions though, as midnightridazz is really a website for the LA biking community and there are lots of different types of rides posted on there. wolfpack hustle is an awesome ride if you're strong enough of a rider. WPH is monday night 10pm at tang's donuts in silverlake. another ride i regard highly is the Passage of a Few People Thru A Rather Brief Moment In Time. they meet wednesdays 8:30pm at california donuts in koreatown. it's more social but the pace is faster than a typical MR party ride. there are also a couple of good, med-fast paced weekly rides in hermosa beach, cerritos, and long beach, but it seems those are a bit out of the way for you.

sjfixed has 2 weekly rides

tues,thurs

tuesdays we do maybe 25-30 mile loops and depending on the amount of riders there are normally 2 groups A,B. A being the faster group,B being the group that cant quite keep up or get dropped from A. rides can range from pretty flat to hill rides in the local area or we ride the the local velodrome (hellyer)

thursday rides we do maybe varying 8-10 miles and is more social riding to eat or coffee ect

and ocassionally have alley cats and or other races

No, it was the biggest pain in the ass. First we couldn't find an apartment. Anytime we did it would get rented before we could get back to the landlords (happened at least 4 times), and by the time we finally did get one, we didnt have enough for me to fly and move my crap out there. Then on top of all that, out of state tuition required me to take out an additional loan of some ridiculous amount. So I wouldnt even have been able to go go to school.

If you can get to out Santa Monica you should try Root Run. It's fast like WolfPack but with a smaller group. Wednesdays 8pm Ocean/montana

Question:I remember LA being pretty flat compared to Seattle. Are the hustle rides just based on miles/speed or are there some hills they go up too? Or all of the above?

A lot of climbing is done to go "over the hill" into/out of the valley or to ride around Mulholland Drive and such. The rides are all of the above, some days flat, some days hills, some days mix.

yeah me neither, got some work to do. did you come out last weds? have we met? i used to do root run/cub camp occasionally when i lived in west LA (i was the one man party in the back though haha).

hairnet-Holy crap i just took a look at that! I got a street view of Fargo St on google maps, thats pretty steep.

physicsoffixed- I dont think well be hitting up Modesto on our way down, but if there is a chance we do ill for sure check out the site and see if anyones around! wish we had more time to stop in more places.

We probably have met. I just don't know anybody's handle on MR, so i don't know who you are.

I didn't go last week though. I haven't gone on any rides lately because of school work, but this winter I'm coming back to Root Run and maybe do some Caturdays (dare wake up early on Saturday?). Who knows, maybe I'll venture out to Wolfpack. Cub Camp is always fun though.

LA native for my whole life: some suggestions: If youre in the Pasadena area, I'd suggest you look into Chevy Chase Drive, its a great scenic drive, much stuff to see on a hilly bike ride (good luck w/ them hills, this is LA, not flat)

Also maybe look into the Griffith Observatory? Good trails up and around there, but Im not too sure about bike riding... Look it up.
