Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? BD should start a wiki or something listing everyone's dimensions with their preferred sizes.. (i'll take a free kilo for that idea, thanks Mike)

This will give you much much better information than any of us can based solely on your height. It's not perfect, but if you are careful with your measurements, you can get a lot of good info with under twenty minutes' worth of work. It should definitely be enough to point you to your frame size. There are a lot of cyclists (and maybe an even higher percentage among the fixed gear crew) out there on bikes that are the wrong size, and nothing sucks the joy out of riding like an ill-fitting bike.

I used this to help decide between the medium Bianchi SOK and large Niner EMD frames for a 29er build this winter, and I was impressed with the feedback I got (it helped me dial a few things in later as well). While it is no substitute for a $175 professional fit, sometimes $175 just isn't in the budget for a fit (don't get me wrong, I absolutely recommend a good pro fit if you can afford it). Just remember, the results are only as precise as the measurements you put in.
