Your handlebar angles kill me!

lol - I know - I thought about lowering them just for the pics. I'm mostly a touring and fitness type rider. I find that angling them little bit up is easier on the wrists for long rides.

Just found this group and I like it a lot. It's good to see people that ride SS/fixed AND geared bikes too. It doesn't have to be an exclusive lifestyle choice with a bunch of culture rules and exclusions. I'm 45 and I'm in the process of building my first SS since my BMX days in the 80's. Back then, I loved tearing through neighborhoods on a BMX bike. My idea is to recreate some of those BMX attributes that I liked so much, in a 26" wheel bike with a little more top speed. I recently got a 90's Bridgestone CB3 frame and fork off EBay. The CB3 was one of the early hybrids, but back then they had 26" wheels and they called them city bikes. I'm gonna run cantilever brakes and use SS converted MTB wheels with 26x1.5 slicks. It's going to have drop bars, aero brake handles and flat pedals so I can just jump on and off. I haven't settled in on the gearing yet, but I want it kind of tall. I want to be able to cruise 15-16mph and still be able to hop curbs. I don't know if that's a realistic goal or if I even have the legs for it, but I'm gonna have a lot of fun trying!

Commuted the first time on my frame up SS Bridgestone CB3 build this morning. I had more fun building this bike than any other. I'm 45 and this is my first SS since my BMX days in the 80's. Currently it's running 44-13, which according to Sheldon is 88 gear inches, feels about right for the flatlands I'm riding. 44-16 was a magic gear, it didn't need a tensioner, but with the 13 even a half link couldn't get me close. I'm going to try 44-14, if there is no magic, I'll go back to 44-13 and updgrade to a push up Surley Singulator. Love the ride though, the 26 x 1.5's are pretty fast and they are so smoooth. I still have to trim down the fender stays.[IMG][/IMG]

Good choice of the surely chain tensioner,use one on my SS MTB with the action pushing down on the chain. This is their new version so has the fence adaptable for the 2 most common chain sizes.

The bike it's on is my 90 High Plains with bull horns. Great set up for any ruckus I find out there. BTW, I be 55

I 23 fixed gear miles yesterday in the melting slop. I sure wish I had fenders!

It was a fun winter!!!!! I now need a new chain and freewheel. It got cold on me and I got distracted from riding. I didn't get it cleaned up once, once was all it took.

anyways, back to 48/17 I was hating that 46/16

I went on my first Brevet of the year last weekend, the Cranbury 200k. Since the route was flat I took the fixerd gear. It was a nice ride, except the 25-40mph winds on the last leg. There were 3-4 other fixies on the ride.

TT when do you start a 70+ fixed gear thread? I got seven more months assuming I avoid anymore dog attacks but that's another story! I think we are close to the same age.
