fixie mountain bikes
Hi, i'm new to this sight so if I post stuff in the wrong forum don't judge me.
I have a biachi 21 speed hybrid, I love the bike but I realized that gears suck. I thought a bout doing a SS conversion but because of the road i have to ride on to commute to work is so bad i must change to a mountain bike tire thickness. To make a long story short, im looking for a fixie single speed mountain bike. Does anybody know if i can get one from a factory or do i have to customize? Thank y'all for the help.

okay first of all, that's just rude. second, you searched for a single speed. My post specifically requested fixed gear mountain bikes, so if you are going to be a smart ass than do it right. but thx for the help.

You will have to customize a bike.
Although, I only did 5 more minutes of searching than you did.

Lol cuz true. Surly makes some fixed/single speed friendly mtb stuff. The single speed 29ers on BikesDirect could probably be switched over to fixed pretty easily as well.

You should get a fixie with a wide tire clearance. like so:
https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/.../kilott_wt.htm
Or get a cyclocross bike.

Get a single speed mountain bike with dick breaks. Then put a tomi cog or velo solo bolt on cog and bolt it on where the dick was.
Inother words, redline Monocog + bolt on cog = fixie mountie bikie.
Heres on of mine

The Phallic wonder strikes? Seriously though, no one really rides proper fixed MTB's on real trails. There's a lot of skill while trail riding in timing your pedal strokes to make it through rock gardens which requires a freewheel. As for single-speed mountain bikes.... There's quite a few frames that have replaceable drop-outs to go SS.
As for converting your current bike, you can pick up a White Industries ENO hub and build a rear wheel for that, and you're good to go. There's also a variety of conversion kits available which replace your rear cassette with one cog and some spacers to to set the chainline straight.

There are proper fixed gear mountain bikers out there, Fixie Dave does the Tour Divide on a fixed Gear Mountain bike. As for the OP get any SS MTB that's available out there and either get a bolt on cog as suggested above or get a Paul Fixed gear MTB hub which lets you keep your rear disc brake on while providing the proper threads for a fixed gear cog and lockring.
