waterproof jacket w/ pit zips

ive been doing some searching and ive come up empty, only things i can find have one or the other

im looking for a waterproof shell with pit zips for ventilation
just a hardshell would be preferable so i could layer underneath and still use it in warmer weather

my current combination is a fleece lined jacket with wind resistant outer, super warm but not waterproof and zero ventilation, turns into a sauna in about 30 mins

any ideas?

Not sure how it is now, but the old Cannondale jackets were awesome. Still have one. Gore Bike Wear makes a great one, but I don't remember the model name.

get one, they're cheep. you wont be out much if you dont like it.

also, doesn't need pit zips, its breaths on levels not thought possible. often it feels like you dont have a shell on at all (aka, COLD)
but it does keep you dry. no idea how this magic plastic works.

Ive got a showers pass jacket that I love. It was not cheap but it has held up over the years and does an excellent job of keeping the wind and rain out. With a light fleece under it is perfect in the winter, nice for fall. its quite stylish as well.

Check out EMS or REI. Quick trip to Broadway/Lafayette and you can hit both the big REI in the Puck building and the EMS on Broadway and Prince or Spring (I forget).

I got a house brand EMS Goretex hardshell a few years back and it's awesome. It's three layer so a bit stiff but very wind resistant and has pit zips. Use it for snow boarding outer layer and for biking when it's cold. Really impressed by how well it's made. Great pockets and smart design. They also tend to have big sales on house brand pretty often. Marmot's stuff is also really good. Have a lighter rain jacket from them.

O2++. I have a jacket of a similar design from sierra trading post, except mine has a (completely useless) hood. The texture of the fabric is friggin weird but it will keep you dry, no matter what. At least, it will until a cat chews a hole in it...

I have the women's version of this Patagonia jacket and it is the best ever. upper arm zips rather than pit zips but i like them better - they do a better job IMO of directing air flow when you're on your bike. My review of it on Tiny Fix is here.

A more affordable option is this Marmot one. A friend has the women's version and so far is pretty happy with it.

I feel like there are lots of waterproof jackets out there with pit zips. my last one was a simple goretex north face rain jacket.

Yeah but really once you try them on and start feeling the fabrics and the fit, you're not going to really care what it says on the web anyway.

Also that hellish place in Union Square has a good selection. Forget the name right now.

To throw a stupid-expensive jacket into the mix, I've got a Mission Workshop Orion and can't recommend it more highly. Great cut for cycling, and looks equally sleek off the bike. Pit zips, hood, waterproof, and comfy through a huge temperature range (mostly due to its zero insulation). Depending on pit zips and layers I've ridden and felt comfortable in my Orion from 60F down to -20F.

But then again, it retails for $400 dollars, so one would hope it's a nice jacket. Before ordering mine I'd found very few impressions, so if anyone's interested, ask some questions.

anyone know anything about North Face Mountain Light jackets? My wife got me one for xmas and i was going to exchange it for a cycling-specific one they have (longer drop-butt seat) but that'd be a pain in the ass. Any feedback?
