Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

it looks like it needs a shorter stem so that saddle can move back some.

Saddle setback is independent of bar reach. They are separate systems. The optimal pedaling motion is finite. The position on the bars is not. With a stronger core or more flexibility you can maintain a longer or lower position.

If those newer elite button cages are anything like the originals from the 90's they are worth every frugal penny.

They were the cage to get in their hayday. If you were a penny pincher you would've bought the flimsy specialized alu cages instead of these.

I've moved the saddle back a cm or two from when I took that pic. I hadn't ridden it then, so It was just in the middle of the rails.

Finally ventured into the world of geared bikes. Love the new Jamis Quest Sport. Very comfortable on the chip seal country roads we have.

+1, digging that Miyata. Looks fast.

I've been reaching for my '91 Bianchi Eros a lot lately. It's been through a couple of crashes and parts swaps over the years, and my plan is to ride it into the ground:

Beautiful bike. If you quit riding it into the ground, though, it might last longer....

Thanks. I'm really liking that Bianchi, too. Want to get something with flamboyant 80s paint one of these days. Is that right brake lever bent all crazy, or are my eyes playing tricks?

Yep! I'll be taking this Bianchi, but need to swap the bars first. The top positions on these bars aren't doing it for me, as much as I love the way the flared drops feel:

It is bent all crazy. That happened after a crash where the bike flipped a couple times. The lever works just fine, so I've kept it.

The hot pink color took a little while to grow on me (I bought the bike in a rush before a supported tour), but now I love it.

Well this certainly looks like a credible PBP bike. Just needs a rando bag. Bonne chance!
