Sunday 12/20/2009 Yes

Very cold today by my standards anyway, low 50s when I left and low 50s when I got back. I hate to do less than 30 miles per ride but the cold weather just takes the fun out of it for me. I guess I'm just a wimp (that's what my daughter says anyway).

Rode in five miles in snow and some cleared main streets. Slippery most of the way but I made it...lots of fun.
Falls Church to Arlington, VA.

Rode recumbent bike at the gym for about fifteen miles. Haven't had the bike out in about a month since the weather turned cold. I miss it and perhaps might get out this weekend and ride the local trail.

Yep, Got a ride in today (the 24th) that is. The goal was an hour ride, didn't care about the distance. Started off riding into a headwind for almost 35 minutes. I think the wind was about 15 mph with some gusts but I dunno. I figured the ride back to the house was a bit longer than the ride from where I got dropped off, so I figured 35 minutes into the headwind would give me my hour ride. I was close I got back to the house at about 56 minutes and some change. Averaged 13.2mph into the wind for the first 35 minutes. And was riding from 17-20mph on the way back with the wind (I KNOW slow by some standards ... LOL). Ended up averaging right at 15mph for the whole ride. Overall really enjoyed the ride...

Yep, got out for another ride today. Was pretty windy here also. The wind was coming from the total opposite direction from yesterday. I got about 8 miles into the ride when I got hit with the windy drizzle. Just enough to mess up my sun glasses. Ended up riding 11 miles with the wind on the way out.... And then 11 miles into the wind on the way back.... uggggg The wind came very close to winning today, I almost called for a ride with about 3 miles to go. But I hung in there (although a bit slow). Ended up riding 22 miles..... Great ride........... when it was done .....

Well I got my ride to the post office in today.... 6.5 miles on the mountain bike with the basket. It was about 47deg when I left. Got to the post office only to realize they were closed today... LOL .... All is good though. My knees were a bit sore after the last couple of days. Nothing major wrong other than just not riding enough. So the short ride loosened my legs up....

Guess i'm ready for the Monday ride to the post office..

Last winter I didn't leave the house (to ride the bike) unless it was above 50F, and then I had to force myself out the door.
This year I'm doing much better. Today's ride was nice. It was 38F when I left the house. Did 23 miles. Saw lots of other riders. I was warm but my fingers were cold even though I had "warm" gloves with glove liners. Guess I need to do more research on which gloves are "really" warm.

Four days in a row now.... Got a ride in today, not really a planned ride kind of spur of the moment. Had to drive my sister to the beach (Crescent beach just south of St. Augustine). I had my bike with me and she was going to be busy for about an hour. I sat in the car debating weather to ride or not for about 10 minutes. I most likely was not going to ride.. But then an older guy (older than me anyway) came out with his bike and was going for a ride. I got out of the van and said to him "well if you can ride in the cold I can too" .. We both laughed he left while I got my riding stuff on... I rode south on A1A for almost 5 miles.. wind at my back of course. Turned around and rode into the wind for the 5 miles back to the van. A short ride is better than no ride ... Oh I think the temp was 53 when I started and 53 when I got back.... managed to miss the drizzle that we ran into on the way to the beach.

Monday 12/28/09 Yes

Weather forecast called for sunny and cold this morning. I had an 8 am dentist appointment so I rode the half mile to the dentist office then got in 20+ miles after that, mid 40s when I left and mid 60s when I got back with a light wind. Good ride even if it was cold.

its been cold here by our standards, bussiness at the shop picked up the last two weeks before xmas and we even had fla snow on xmas day.

i've noticed that i might ride a little farther and faster than some out there and no one should let that discourage them. i've had a late employment change that gives me the ability to live an extrordinary lifestyle that allows me to ride and work on bikes again, and gives me an opportunity to pursue some racing.

since going back to the shop in may, i have lost about 40 lbs and have increased my averages across the board. however, there are others that are much better and stronger than i. the past two sundays i have been dropped hard, and this week was quite humilliating since i got dropped in the first half of the ride. then again, i was trying to hang on at 28 mph.

here are some more hard numbers, i don't worry about heart rate or air temp (i'm usually i too much of a hurry to record that, although i could use noaa), all of my rides include a commute in and often a commute home, but i'm only posting daily totals.

only a bit more than 100 miles in three days to clear 7000 for the year

I got another ride in today... Another short one.. 11.62 miles ... I might ride a bit longer but the wind the last few days is getting the better of me. I'm thinking.... Fight the wind now and be able to ride longer later, that's the theory I'm going with ... lol

It was a great day for a ride (Wed) .... I had plans of getting a longer ride in.... My plans never work out as planned... DOH!! I got really busy just before I was going to go for a ride. I ended up riding, but only to the post office on the MTB... The usual 6.5 miles or so post office ride.
