For some reason I felt tired for the whole ride today. Only did 32 miles. Maybe my next ride will be better.

Before I talk about the Stone Mountain ride, a little bit about my commutes this week. Friday night, we had a "Green" concert in Piedmont Park. I guess the green part was that no parking was available and you had to bike, walk or take public transportation. Okay, that's pretty cool. But I ride through this park every commute. And the number of semi-trucks I saw coming in and out of there just during my short ride though in the morning. Is that really greener than having the concert in a facility that already exists? The scale is hard to see, but here are before and after pics of the stage set-up.
<steps down off of soapbox.
Okay, now to the fun stuff. Friday, I took a vacation day and decided to use part of it to get a good ride in. We have a system of trails and bike routes that goes all the way out to Stone Mountain. Well, "mountain." It's just a big hunk of granite with the confederate heroes of the civil war carved in the side. Uh, yay? Not so much. But the park around it is nice and the ride there and back was going to be 32-34 miles, a slight step up from my last ride. Also, I stopped short in Stone Mountain Village. You can make the ride even longer if you go to the park and ride around it. Maybe next time.
It was in the 50s when I left, so I bundled up with my winter gloves, tights over shorts, a jacket and a hat under my helmet. A few miles down the road, I stripped off my hat, opened the vents on my jacket and unzipped it a little. That set-up was pretty comfortable the rest of the ride. I didn't need the jacket on the way back, but wasn't uncomfortable in it. Best $6 thrift store buy ever!
The ride was lovely. The PATH had few people on it. Most of the time I had it to myself.
And eventually I rounded a curve and saw the non-offensive side of the big rock:
Just past there is the town of Stone Mountain Village. I sat for about 10 minutes and drank water.
Here comes the train!
Forgot to bring a Luna bar, but I added a bagel to my smoothie before the ride so I wasn't hungry yet. But the tummy did start growling on the way back.
After a couple of miles into my ride back, uh oh, a flat. Dang it! So yeah, this was the first flat I changed while out. This one was just a little pinhole. I checked the area of the flat on the tire and the rim and found nothing. It's a Specialized tube. So was the last one that flatted. I should probably just upgrade the tires. Anyway, changed out the new tube, no problem. It is kind of hard to get good pressure with the hand pump. But the one on my Fuji is better than the one I have on my commuter. Also, this happened on a desolate part of the trail and some dude just rode right on by without saying a word. Okay, maybe I looked like I had it under control, I did. But a woman broken down in an out of the way place and that's no concern at all? Chivalry is dead. :-)
Other than that, the ride back was uneventful. I didn't use mapmyride because it would've eaten all my battery, but it looks like the ride was 32-34 miles. Absolutely no butt hurt at all. Of course, I'm still on the tester saddle because my size is out of stock from the source. The LBS said I could keep it until they come in. I didn't want white, but I might end up just buying this one since it's so friendly with my hind end.

Great pictures as always abracapocus.. Later today I'll find my camera and see if there are any on it worth sharing Loaning somebody my pump and giving them a patch saved me a $100+ ticket on the trail once. Cop said he would have given me a ticking for not stopping at a stop sign. But said he didn't because I was a good samaritan..

Nice pics abracapocus. Somehow I always take the crappy shots with all the traffic and "trashy" sections of the bike path.
Awesome weather today. I did my 35 miles today. Rode from home to Avondale. Did a couple of laps around the lake and then headed out the Stn Mtn. Did a lap around the mtn and then headed home.
Lots of traffic and pedestrians at Stn Mtn. I didn't realize this weekend is the Highland Games.

abracapocus: as someone who has done stagehand work, setting up concerts and other events in Jacksonville and Cleveland, I can tell you that the only place that may have been greener might be a theatre. However, you might not be able to get as many people into a theatre and then it also has climate control as well. The number of trucks that you saw is likely typical for almost any concert. Most arena type venues requires the building of a stage that may or not be provided by the venue itself. If you consider the lack of climate control at an outdoor venue, it is likely to be greener than most places.
All the same, I understand your concerns. Here's my ride, keep in mind that I ride into work, ride from work, and more often than not ride home. So there is up to 12 miles of commute in my ride data.

Besides commuting, I did 22.9 miles this morning with the local group riders. I got a flat on the way there, which made me a tad late, but I caught the group and proceeded to have a great ride. I had a good time pushing a little harder than I normally do, and as usual, made some new friends.
Also, as usual, I brought the camera and forgot to use it. Thhhpt. One of these days I'll make a handlebar mount for it.

Droobieinop, maybe you're right. A full week of trucks coming and going certainly leaves an impression.

Here are a few pictures from my rides on the withlacoochee trail.
1st pic... The motel we stayed at is right on the trail in Inverness.
2nd pic.. An art studio that backs up against the trail.
3rd pic... The northern trail head.
4th pic... 2 big turtles .... LOL
5th pic... caboose in Inverness.
6th pic... 46 mile paved trail my butt.... This chunk of trail over the road was NOT paved and not really any fun to ride over with really skinny tires. I'm a wuss... I un-clipped one foot and coasted down..
7th pic.. I'm not sure but I think this is a Walmart truck breeding ground. It must be because there were HUNDREDS of trucks there..... Seriously though that is the biggest warehouse I have ever seen (up close not on tv).....
