[QUOTE=zzOtherlandzz;11633433]Here are a few pictures from my rides on the withlacoochee trail.

6th pic... 46 mile paved trail my butt.... This chunk of trail over the road was NOT paved and not really any fun to ride over with really skinny tires. I'm a wuss... I un-clipped one foot and coasted down..
7th pic.. I'm not sure but I think this is a Walmart truck breeding ground. It must be because there were HUNDREDS of trucks there..... Seriously though that is the biggest warehouse I have ever seen (up close not on tv).....

I don't understand why that bridge is not paved. It is a bit of a b@#$#h to try and ride across.
You are correct that is the Wal Mart breeding ground

66* when I left this morning really felt good, had the arm warmers on for the first 10 miles then they had to come off. I might try to ride again tonight, I really need the miles.

zzotherlandzz - Great pictures! Congratulations on the ride! I've wondered the same thing about that area that is not paved. When we went I was fine as I have a hybrid, Hubby..not so much. Some of those "stones" were more like rocks! Loved your comment about the trucks. Thought the same thing.

SloSpokeJim - glad to see you are back riding. One of these days we will have to try to try out the Seminole Trail.

Loved seeing the pictures near Stone Mountain. Never realized there was a paved trail there!

Well, I finally got some riding in this weekend. Not the amount of miles I have done in the past but it's a start. Yesterday we went to the Baseline Trailhead of the Marjorie Harris Greenway. Only about 7 miles but some hills I haven't done since the surgery. Kinda pooped afterwards.

Today was better. We rode over to the airport, back around the warehouses and then to Starbucks. Had a skinny pumpkin spice latte and then back to the roads. Total of about 13 miles and I felt really good afterwards. Maybe it was the latte.

LindaN.. Hmmmmm you know at one time I went and checked out her cabin, is that near the trail you are talking about? The next mountain bike ride I want to do is to check out the Palatka Lake Butler trail north of Keystone Heights.. The unpaved section there. Ohhhh very cool you got some riding in this weekend.... Perfect temps for sure.. Not sure where we are going to ride tomorrow.... Both friends don't ride much so most likely we will go to the PLB trail or Gainesville trail rather than on the roads someplace.

Thirty or so miles in and around Norfolk. I rode from home to the Stockley Gardens Fall Arts Fest., then shadowed a couple of Top-sail Schooners as they slowly sailed on the Elizabeth river. All in all a lovely day.

no, actually this trailhead is off of Baseline Road in Ocala near Maricamp. It's several loops and if you go from one end to the other it's only 5 paved miles. Some hilly parts but not as much as the Gainesville side of that trail. Yes, I've been to her house as well. Pretty neat. Great BBQ place just down the road if you go again.

LindaN... Did you ever check out Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park about 10 miles south of Gainesville on SR441? I spent a day there a few years ago It was pretty cool and you even got to ride down into Paynes Prairie... They say there is water buffalo on the prairie, but I didn't see any on the day I went. I did have a slow motion fall into sugar sand because I could NOT un-clip fast enough. Not really that fun when you fall into sugar sand when your all sweaty... it sticks to you a bit. Of course it was even more fun on the way back when I thought for sure I could make it through that stretch of sand the second time...... only to fall in almost the same exact spot.... Fun day though and makes for a good story now

Weather was beautiful but I had little motivation to ride. Really had to force myself to go, I hope tomorrow is a better day. It is a shame to waste such perfect weather and not ride.

Oh, YAY, back on the bike again! Nice and quiet after the clean and lube job (except for that annoying little tick that I'm chalking up to wear and tear on the cleats ). Got in 18 and change at an average 16.3. I was going to go further but decided not to push things two days before a 50-miler. Best of all, NO FLATS!

Look forward to seeing whomever at the Santa Fe ride Saturday! Just look for the old yellow and white steel relic with the gaudy Profile bar tape!

Yep finally got back out on the bike. I had an idea that I would ride 30 miles today..... but uggggg I got on the bike and nothing seemed right. Could not get comfortable, headwind right from the start the whole ride out. I just felt yuck after not riding for 6 days The ride back was a bunch better and even good at some points. I am glad that I got off my lazy butt and went for a ride... Feel good now Ended up riding 24.12 miles.. Forgot the camera....

To borrow from SloSpoke ..... Motivation meter was about a 3 on a scale of 1-10 .......... Determination meter was +10 on a scale of 1-10..... I WAS GOING TO RIDE TODAY!!! lol

Have had off site work meetings to drive to most of the week. Blah. So no riding Tue & Wed. Thursday afternoon I got to take the road bike out for a 12 mile loop. It didn't start well though. The plan was to use quiet roads and trails, but there are a couple of busy stretches I had to deal with. On one in the first mile of my ride, I signal to turn left, look back to see a truck hanging behind me, then I start to go. Apparently he thought my signal meant he should punch it and try to pass me in the other lane. Probably the closest call I've had yet. I almost took it as a sign I should just go home, but stuck it out, and glad I did. It was breezy, sunny, mid 70s, perfect. The trees are just starting to change. Should be able to get some pretty pics in about a week. Instead of teleworking today, I'm gonna ride to work mostly for the ride, but partly to show my face around the office too.

I have been negligent in posting here, despite still commuting. Today wasn't a good day to ride to work, we have pea soup fog and visibility was less than 100 feet in some places.

Hopefully it will clear, and I can get a good ride in tomorrow morning!

kjc9640 Thanks! So long as it's not freezing at the start

zzOtherlandzz Gotta remember to pinch the wife's little camera to take with me on the ride tomorrow; my D50 doesn't exactly fit in a jersey pocket.

abracapocus EEP! Sorry t'hear about the goon in the truck! Friend of mine used to ride with a guy up in Georgia who stopped having problems with stupid rednecks in trucks after he started riding with his .45 poking out of a jersey pocket. Drastic solution, but apparently the deterrent effect was worth the extra weight.

It's so nice to have a shiny clean bike and bar tape that isn't all sweatstained and torn up from rainy-road mishaps

[edit] Hmm... I seem to be inordinately smiley this morning; guess I need to get up and eat breakfast more often

@mrz80, he probably wasn't a redneck, just your garden variety idiot. I do have a Georgia Firearms License, but carrying won't combat that kind of stupidity.

Beautiful day to ride... No photos today but I wish I had taken the camera. I saw 2 gopher tortoises nose to nose and one of them was doing a funny head dance for the other one. I think they were getting ready to ... well you know what I am talking about.

This post should be rated PG, for mature audience's only.

The wife and I have been looking for a new home in the north GA mountains (Blue Ridge, Blairsville, etc) for several months. We were up that way 3 days this week (Mon, Wed, Thurs). I haven't been on the bike since last Saturday, so when I went out today I was surprised at how slow I was and how tired I felt. Only did 29.5 miles.

I hate getting old.

Yep.... Got out for a 20.34 mile ride today, wanted to go a bit further but needed to get back home and clean up the mess I made putting a power steering pump on my truck. Felt a lot better on the bike today than I did yesterday. The temp at the hardware store on the way out said 84, didn't catch it on the way back. Good ride even with the slight headwind on the 10 miles out. Took the camera & only took a picture of a couple of friends.. It was her birthday so I guess I got a birthday pic for them.... Hahah...
