NOT going to ride today because I only got 2hrs sleep last night. Somebody hit a power poll about a mile away from my house last night at about 2:45am or so... Took the elec company here in hickville over 1.5hrs to even make it to the scene. They power came back on at about 6am. I got a couple hrs sleep that was about it. Spent 4hrs in the van with my mom running the air conditioning off and on all the while. She has breathing problems and the house got too stuffy and warm with no air moving (no fans or anything). Sooo we hung out in the van.... TIRED!!!

Helped my sister move today. Ill ride tomorrow.
I will say that cycling helps me stay fit. Here I am, 54 years old, hauling furniture and crap up and down two flights of stairs without complaint.
My young niece and nephew were whining like babies after about 10 min.

Still no riding for me... it's been 3 weeks since I got hit, I've been home for 14 days, roughly. I'm working on getting a recumbent trike to borrow while I do rehab on my leg, hopefully I can start putting some miles on over the weekends again. Ugh. Getting better every day, though. Will still be a few weeks before I can go back to work.

OMG! You were hit? I had no idea. What happened? I don't remember seeing anything on the board about this.

My hubby had shoulder surgery last year and we rented him a recumbent to ride on one of our rail/trails here.

Get better soon!! So sorry to hear this.

I was commuting to work, got to an intersection and waited till the light turned green. When I went, a kid ran the red light and plowed into my left leg at 30MPH, shattering my femur. I now have a rod and several plates and screws holding my leg together. Police report said it was nobody's fault and got several major thongs wrong. We're tryong to get thwm to fix the report so the insurance will work correctly. The LHT (my bike) has a bent fork, that's it. I had no other injuries, amazing considering how hard I got hit. It will be a few months before I can ride a regular 2-wheel bike. Working on getting a trike for rehab purposes. I'd show you pics of the scar going from my knee to my waist, but... o_O

Wow... Figures about the police report, <sigh>. Considering how hard you got hit I guess it could have been a lot worse on you & the bike. Snap a picture of your new 3 wheeler when you get it.

won't ride alone anymore unless on rail-to-trail. i get the idea that gas prices have gone from a curiosity to a panic. commuted to work for 2 years, but won't now. read about too many accidents to lone bikers. will be riding with group asap.

Everything in life comes with a certain level of risk... I feel safer on a bike than in a car in most cases. After I heal up, I will probably be going back to riding to work, though I will be even more careful (if that's possible). More people die every year from illegible doctor's prescriptions than riding bikes. It's all relative.

With that being said, here's what my left hip looks like now:

I have to go with the "not enough sleep" excuse too. I had to be at work at 7 AM, didn't get to sleep until midnight. On the plus side for those of you concerned with this for environmental reasons, I did take public transit. Slept on the train ride in.

Oh man, Funkystickman, that sucks! Speedy recovery to you! I agree, there's risk in everything, and even more risk in the really fun stuff. But I like really fun stuff, so...

Haven't ridden in about 2 weeks, and won't until the weather cools off a little. I got a kidney infection (even though surgery last year was supposed to have prevented it) depite making sure my liquid intake was plenty. Kids' schools are starting (I'm a single mom of 3) and I'm trying to make preparations to move away. If I stay, the heat here will eventually kill me. The bike riding will have to wait until (temperature-wise) it's a bit safer or I move to somewhere cooler.

well, no riding for awhile. Right knee replacement surgery was last Friday. Got out of the hospital Sunday. Monday was a rough day. Had to adjust the pain meds but now feeling better. PT was here today and was happy to see my extension was already over 90 degrees. This one went much better. Able to put full weight on it the day after surgery. Hoping to be back on my bike real soon.

Wow.... Sounds promising for sure!! Look at it this way.... TOOO HOT to ride right now anyway, stay inside on the trainer and then when the weather starts to cool down you should be good to go!!

Good luck. Get back on the bike as soon as you can, even if its just on the trainer.

No ride for me today. Yesterday was my first outing since the knee doc gave me the ok. Only did 22 miles but I can feel it a little today. Riding on the trainer definitely is not the same as riding on the road.
I'll do every other day for a few weeks until I get back up to speed.
