I'm a noob. How do you get to the base ? Exit Las Pulgas and park, or can you ride past San Onofre on the "Old Pacific Hwy" ?

Here's the Gmaps route. You can zoom in and check out the street views on the approaches to the base, but of course it won't display street views on-post.
Good luck, have fun, and please be courteous on base. The Marines are the most considerate drivers, especially compared to the apes we deal with in the rest of SoCal.

Thank you for the help. I live in So. OC.
I have been on base a few times for paintball. Always respectful.
I'm a noob to riding. Late 50's for fitness. I would love to ride through there. I may try it. I did register with the base.
Thanks again !!

You might enjoy visiting again. It's changed so much in just the last 10 years. Two giant brick hospital structures have been built, and some new MOUT training sites have sprung up, but the vast majority of it is still virgin coastal desert scrub. It's one of my favorite rides around here--3 stoplights total (and they're almost always green), one stop sign, and the road condition is generally good. It's a great stretch for sustained wattage training or just haul-the-freight.
