I live in San Diego, in the Point Loma area. My wife and I ride out to Point Cabrillo and back almost every morning on my way to work. On days we feel good we ride down to the Tide Pools and back for a nice hill workout. Otherwise, we ride mainly up the coast towards Oceanside.

Here's my bikes. My favorite is a '86 Schwinn Super Sport.







Now you know why I go by SuperSport on BF.

My next favorite is a 2005 Redline Conquest Pro cyclocross bike.



My commuter/grocery-getter used to be an old steel DiamondBack.



But, the DiamondBack was a little too small for me so we fixed up an old steel Trek mountain frame with fenders and a rack.

I run Biopace on all my bikes and so does the Chief Mechanic (my wife), who is a real bike mechanic, by the way.

That's about how I felt today. I did a newport back bay loop today and headed back on Jamboree. I was riding a whopping 5 mph up those hills

Well I love Fixies, road bikes , frames and their endless possibilities.
Gears to much work ...plus all those componets just add extra weight.
I like my bike clean and stripped to the bare minimun
personally for me its more fun that way.
Less is More.
Moved from SAn FRancisco to LA..La, well there are some perks.
Like getting hit by an 88 Year Old Man driving a 1966 Dodge Dart....GOOD TIMES*****
LA does have the Kitchen talk about a GREAT resource!!!!!!
Built my BABY there, but she's now out of commision due to the whole Bike v. Auto accident case,
not really a fair match, but hopefully I can finish my other bike this weekend.

M name is Mirko. I just bought a TREK 7100 hybrid a few weeks ago and I'm trying to build up some stamina on it. I'm 56 years old and weigh 225. Never done much exercise. I'm 5'10", or at least I used to be. So far I'm just riding around the neighborhood, 3 or 4 miles. Hope to build on that soon.

The 20" inch bike felt too big so I got a 17.5" (44.5 cm) and I wonder if that is too short. I'm not riding long enough to figure out if anything is unconfortable.

The technical aspect of cycling really appeals to me, which is the way hobbies usually go for me as well. I'm really interested in rebuilding and tinkering on bikes although I am way less than a newbie even. I have a nice book and I'm reading it thoroughly. I usually enjoy learning about my hobby almost as doing the hobby itself.

Let's hope I can ride with you all once I get more confortable with my bike and maybe once I have moved up to a real road bike.

Not on a Sunday afternoon, but avoid it at all costs during the week and around rush hour! Vertical Bob can attest to this.

Sepulveda is a great ride when done at the right times. Avoid it like the plague on weekdays and weekend afternoons, especially near Westwood and thru Sherman Oaks. Your best bet is to hit it up on either Sat. or Sun. mornings between 6 and 9am. That's when I've ridden it and it's been okay.

Hi, I'm Jessica. I just signed up. I live in Sherman Oaks and am just starting to ride again after several years off a bike. I used to ride regularly in the Mid-Wilshire area on a hybrid, but stopped riding after an accident (a driver opened a car door right into my path). My inspiration for getting back on a bike is that I was just given a Specialized Tarmac Comp as a gift. It's my first road bike, so it's taking a bit of an effort to get adjusted to it (especially learning how to ride with clipless pedals for the first time).

I'd love some advice on beginner rides in the SFV. I'd also welcome advice on how people got used to clipless pedals. I'm debating going to a mall parking lot at 7 am to ride in circles and practice starting and stopping. I'm a bit nervous about riding in traffic before I really am comfortable with the pedals, especially given my accident history.

Welcome Jessica, wow what a great gift! I live in OC so I can't help you with ride in SFV,but there quite a few riders here in that area.

Welcome, Jessica. Well, you've come to the right place for sure. There are so many threads with advice (in not only the So Cal region, but in the Road Cycling Forum as well). I remember getting used to my cleats as well, and I did so at Griffith Park. Basically, you need a place where there are few cars, but also where, once you get comfortable, you can take off on a ride. Just always remember, unclip and THEN stop - even if you do it 30 seconds before you actually stop in the beginning. I know it doesn't seem like it now, but eventually you won't even remember clipping in and out. It will just become second nature!

ME is right Griffith Park is a great place to ride.. not too much traffic....
When I got my clipless....I would ride hard then go onto a grassy area and stop in case...did that a few times...then felt pretty comfortable...clip out early if fine...but you will get used to it and it will be second nature!
As for rides...there is the San Fernando Valley Bicycle Club
