What's up with some motorcyclists?
Anybody been buzzed by motorcyclists in Griffith Park? This past weekend I had stopped for a drink of water after reaching the top of Trash Truck Hill. I was just starting to take off down the back side of the hill when a group of motorcyclists came to the stop sign there at Mt. Hollywood Drive. One of them honked at me. My first thought was he was being obnoxious, telling me to move the f*#k over (even though I already was). But then I gave him the benefit of the doubt. "Perhaps he's just giving me a heads up," I thought, "After all, it's easy not to hear 15 crotch rockets behind you in the park."
Then their pack proceeds to whip by me, two abreast. Several of them buzzed me and a couple even swerved in front of me as they passed me, getting awfully close to my front wheel.
You'd think motorcyclists would identify more closely with cyclists than the average motorist. I figure there are d@^chebag bikers just like there are d@^chebag cyclists. Or maybe it's a combination of some d@^chebags and a herd mentality. I've only had positive experiences from car traffic in the park (though I do avoid riding there during rush hours). Just curious if anyone has experienced something similar.

1. I would have made a downward motion with my left palm as we left the stop sign - "Slow!"
2. Then, a knifing motion with my same hand as I moved to the left - "Single file behind me!"
Then, after I'd passed you, I'd lift my right hand off the throttle long enough to give you a friendly wave.
Odds are, those behind me would do the same. That's how it works. DB

We're also guilty of the pack mentality. I see bicyclists who become emboldened as soon as they get in a pack--lashing out at cars, blowing stop signs, getting into verbal altercations, because they think everyone else in the pack has their back.
I'm an avid motorcyclist too, and I prefer to either ride alone or in groups of 4, max; that goes both for motorcycling or bicycling.
And the guys in motorcycle forums complain about some of the stupid stuff we do too. I try to explain to them that we have too much in common to focus on our differences, but there will always be those on both sides of the fence who won't get it.

calamarichris said it right. I was an avid (professional) motorcyclist, and now I'm an avid (NOT professional) bicyclist, and my experiences and preferences are nearly identical to his. (At least when it comes to bikes and bikes. I don't know about any other stuff he's into 
)

I got buzzed by a motorcyclist going approximately 100 out near red rock in Vegas. I was in the shoulder "lane" and so was he! I'm talking inches of air between him and me, very freaky.
Nevertheless, most motorcyclists are pretty reasonable but when you get a small pack of crotch rockets determined to ride nutty, stupid decisions ensue.

Seen that plenty of times too. Two or three guys on a motorcycling forum decide to meet for a ride; all three invite one person without telling each other; those invitees invite more invitees, who invite more invitees. You end up standing around with 40 other guys sheepishly waiting for an ambulance for the guy who nobody can remember inviting.

I'm sorry you experienced that. As an avid motorcyclist AND cyclist, I wish I'd have been leading that group. Upon seeing you:
