My daughter said she loves it cause she can "fly like the wind!" Much faster than her single speed kids bike.

We did 52.8 miles today, but the big thing is, we were running new threads. Hence the new pic (in our back yard after we returned home).

Based on my calculations, those new threads should make you 0.00001% faster!

Actually, the two of you are looking good!

Thank you!

I'd say we were at least 0.00001% faster or less.

John is a vision impaired cyclist, and I have been his race pilot since 2011. I only ride with him on weekends, and he rides with others during the week. We race amoung single bikes with the ACT Veterans Cycling Club, and have gone from F grade up to D grade for road races, and even C grade for criteriums. Last summer we also managed a season of track racing.

Our improvement has largely come from losing weight from 200kg of team weight (without bike) to about 180kg now.

Cheers,

Cameron

I should say Cameron is a great writer and has chronicled his and John's racing progression - sometimes with pictures - very nicely here: Australian Cycling Forums - Tandem Tales

The posts cover both the races entered and the ongoing debate about the place of tandems in mass-start road racing in this country. A couple of other blokes chime in with race reports from time to time as well.

Yes, a long thread but quite good to catch up on during the post prandial slump in the office!

Chapeau Cameron and John!

Aww gee thank you WPH, you make me blush, and feel bad for not having written up last weekend's effort.

Cheers,

Climb to Kaiser One Last Time

She said it was the last one two years ago, but she retired and had more time to ride so decided to go for C to K one last time. Here we are near the top of Kaiser pass last Saturday.

I'm generally familiar with Kaiser Pass in the California Sierras, but what does "C to K" mean?

Thanks!

Several years ago, my wife and I picked up an entry level tandem (Univega Tandem Sport) for cheap at a yard sale, and found that we enjoyed riding together every bit as much as we'd hoped. Ever since, we've been on the lookout for a budget-conscious upgrade that would also fit a small stoker (my better half is petite).

This spring we scored an old GT Quatrefoil LX, and we love it. Although we're still tweaking a few things on the bike, it has made a huge difference this season, and really extends our range. In fact, at the end of this month, we'll be doing our first century together!

BTW, my wife is blind in her left eye, which makes riding solo with traffic rather unsafe. She's also had 2 kidney transplants in the 14 years we've been married, so we feel so lucky to be able to ride and celebrate our health together!

Here's a pic of Nick and Chris at C2K from my half-bike (I did it for fourth time).

Here's the Google Earth view of the 157 mile, 16,000 ft climbing route. Their Strava upload.

Here's a view of Climb to Kaiser, with the temperature plot for the day. It was hot.

Carsten and Dorte, that is a lovely bike. I would love to see more pictures of your two Ibis tandems so I am going to check out your flickr account. Do you have a blog with any stories of your brevets?

I like the Ibis bikes because my friend Marty has an Ibis tourer and sometimes we get to go on little trips together. Last time was Lugano to Briancon around some lakes and up some hills.

Cheers and enjoy the summer up your way!

Atop Whiteface Mtn with my 15 y.o. daughter - my primary stoker for the last 7 years. The sign behind us says "4610 ft.". The climb was about 8 mi. @ about 8%. Many articles make it to be a near copy of Alpe d'Huez. I wouldn't know...
