Short day trip, had my Cannodale front handlebar bar snap a hook off the front fork dropout braze-on and twisted it around the hub a few times and yanked the handlebar support down about a few inches. fixed it by aking off the bottom bungies and tied the bag to the bars and kept going

Just finished two weeks in Burma where it rained every day. Had to change shifters to friction mode for the final days due to corrosion. No other issues. No flats on Schwalbe / Vittoria tires. Went through a set of brake pads.

Here lies the body of Mary Lee. S1he died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen year she kept her virginity. Not a bad record for this vicinity.
BTW, folks, this thread is basically a retread of this one the OP started a wile back:

What are you talking about? He's been doing a lot of tours. Can't wait until he figures out how to post photos.

Oh man, I'd forgotten the thread in June. Two months is a pretty short interval. What is it called when the serial killer interval gets shorter and shorter? Maybe we'll have this one again next week! Perhaps after several thousands of miles, O/P has decided the Trek is after all insufficient and a CoMotion or Bruce Gordon is necessary.

Tighten up, Squeeze. At least 6 months between recycle sounds about right. Seriously, I understand there was flooding in St Louis, hope you are high and dry.

Hooked on Touring
Broke temperature records on the Pacific coast of Washington in early June.
Was 98F in Raymond on June 4th - avg. high 67F - previous record 90F.
Almost an all-time June record - is was 103 in late June in 1895.
But this hot, this early in the month is sobering.
People in town was beet red - totally unaccustomed to such heat.
I was demanding an answer from the weather goddess.

Broke a zip tie on one of my rear rack bags. Replaced. Broke my will after I got to the campground and the store had closed. Cold beer but no ice, big issues. Pedaled 70 miles over 11 or so hours. Set up next to this guy, Stuart. A prepper, as in prepared for anything. Block and tackle rigging for the 40x60' tarp, 4 coolers, 2 stoves, propane, even a bread oven. All while camping. He came though with a few handfuls of ice. Nice .

England, near the close of a 1,400 mile tour one of the bottom supporting bolts on my Bontrager (??) front rack sheared off. This is a weak point as it uses a 5Mx24mm bolt with a spacer, the forces on this long bolt are lateral when the rack is loaded. This bolt broke, the other upon inspection was bent.
Fortunately like five minutes later, the very first guy who stopped to help was a mechanic with a veritable parts store in his Land Rover, he found a bolt in his vehicle that would fit.
Since getting back I switched out both bolts, plus now two of my water bottle holder bolts are 5Mx24mm (rather than the common 8 or 12 mm) so that now I have spares.
Mike

Touring bike racks should have sturdier bolts IMO, more strength for minimal added weight. Ideally racks would not need the longer bolts anyway

Yeah it seems like mount points on touring frames and racks should integrate so as to carry a lot of weight. Like bent tabs that meet up or something. Anything more than the threads of a long 5mm bolt.
As far as busted, broke a couple of nipples. I think from hanging the heavy tourer from a hook.
