I'm building up a touring rig from components on my cyclocross bike, which currently has 32h Ultegra 6700 hubs to Stans Alpha rims. I recently noticed the rear rim is weirdly bent... I left it with a family member for storage for a while, and when I got it back the lip of the rim is bent inward radially; it looks like it was dropped or something (there were no tires on it). The wheel is perfectly true though. Aside from the rim needing to be replaced, the Alphas are ultra lightweight and not at all ok for touring, at least for the rear wheel...

I'd like to use the Velocity Fusion to replace it, namely because it is the only non-racing rim I can find with an ERD similar to the Alphas (592). I've got very low funds and can't mess around with replacing spokes as well as the rim at this point, so same ERD is important.

Has any body ever used the Fusion? Is it strong enough for loaded touring? I'm thinking an extended trip, 2-3 months, and I'm about 135 lbs.

If its built well, they are pretty bomb-proof. I've been riding on a set for 6-ish years now, and built up a few sets for friends without any known complaints. Really, from what Velocity told me, they are a Deep-V with just a little less rim height and therefore lighter due to less material.

B. Carfree

I tour on the Velocity aerohead OC (36 hole), and I'm not exactly light (185-205 pounds, depending on how much pie has been consumed). If that rim can hold up to the off-road beatings I give it, I would expect the Fusion to work for most folks. However, if you are 250 pounds, travel with a kitchen sink and don't know how to deal with potholes, then maybe you would find some woe.
