I've always thought the northern midwest got the worst weather year round. In the winter it's not unusual to get down to -20F or so, and in the summer it usually sits in the 90's and over a hundred is not particularly odd. So, bitter cold, and the heat is nothing to scoff at either.
That's the nice thing about here in socal. Lower highs and higher lows. More even year round instead of the extremes.
