Hear, hear!
Before I was 5 years old I walked by myself to kindergarten, a few blocks away from home. I also had the freedom to get up, and ride my trike in my pajamas around the block a few times while waiting for the grown-ups to wake up and make breakfast. When I was 9, I had the freedom to get on the transit bus with my friend (or by muself) and ride downtown to haunt all my favorite hobby shops all day Saturday. The whole time I was growing up,I was not missed at home between breakfast and lunch, and between lunch and dinner (or all day, with prior approval, for that matter).
