REI was having their Scratch and dent sale today. Got a late start and showed up just as they opened. I was over the 200th in line. I have managed to get a decent find at every one of these I have gone too even getting there very late. Some past scores, Set of Shimano SPD shoes. two sets of Transfer panniers, Morph pump that had the rubber installed backwards, brand new rear wheel with 8-9-10 speed Deore hub $15, New Origin 8 100mm stem for $15 few other things.
Todays find was a brand new set of Octalink cranks with bottom bracket. 50-39-30 for $30. Same ones that come on the current model of the Randonnee. The tag said they were pulled off a bike that had frame damage in shipping. Threw them on today and got a couple miles in tweaking the derailleurs to hit right and finding the sweet spot for the handle bars. Jury still out on the cranks. I really liked the 36 tooth middle ring on the old cranks but I did want a little more top end. Give it a couple weeks. Plan to take a nice long ride tomorrow.

Couple bikes that have my interest but not enough to drive cross town. One is a Lotus in my size. Price is wrong for a flipper (both for me to make coin on and price lower then a flipper would price it) but right for a keeper. over a 2 hour round trip to go after it. One Torpedo Italian bike I know is too small for me but it has campy parts. No picture but not a bad ride to go check it out. Both ads are a couple weeks out so they may be gone.
