Nolan Richardson was the coach. He only had mediocre teams after that really good group that had all the success in '94 and '95. He also took Arkansas to the Final Four in '90, but that was before Arkansas joined the SEC. Eddie Sutton started Arkansas' basketball success in the '70's, taking them to the Final Four in '78 with the "triplets" as commentator Al McGuire called them. Had some very good teams in the '80's with both Eddie and Nolan (Nolan took the job in the mid '80's, after Eddie left for Kentucky).
The Razorback basketball program has had some serious problems in recent years, mostly they just haven't been very good. Nolan Richardson was fired several years ago amid controversy I won't go into, and hasn't coached college ball since. He still lives in the Fayetteville area, I believe. Eddie Sutton has battled alcoholism for years, and his career was very much affected by it. I remember when he was hired as Arkansas' coach in '74, he came from Creighton and took Arkansas from playing its home games in a barn to a nationally respected program. Those were his best years, no doubt. We're ready for some more success, losing and mediocrity gets old, especially when there was success before.
