the quick check is to measure the width of the shell, edge-to-edge: you should get either 68mm (British, in this case, FR or Swiss if it was a different bike) or 70mm (Italian).
I don't know about Colnago, but around this period (mid 90s) some of the Italian makes were switching to BSC threaded BBs, so it pays to check carefully.
