Bikes: 1966 Raleigh DL-1 Tourist, 1973 Schwinn Varsity, 1983 Raleigh Marathon, 1994 Nishiki Sport XRS

I dropped about 3 and a half pounds of my primary road bike.

I started with this:

1983 Raleigh Marathon, 27+ lb.


And with an investment of $65, upgraded to this:

1987 Schwinn Prelude, 23.66 lb.


Besides the lower weight, the upgrades the "new" bike has include
. Columbus Tenax tubing (was Raleigh 502)
. 700C wheelset with Presta valve tubes (was 27s with Schrader valves)
. Shimano SIS downtube shifters (was friction stem shifters)
. Leather bar tape
. better paint
