Your LBS can easily help you with that; a new longer brake mount bolt is dirt cheap as opposed to buying a entire new brake. Trust me you can buy brake mounting accessories; some brakesets don't even come with them new.
He does need a rear brake, too, because occasionally he rides the freewheel side.
