The most comfortable tape i've used so far is Planet Bike Comfort Gel. It's relatively cheap too.
I haven't had any issues wrapping with it.. But I will vouch for the it's not cushy, not cushy at all, but still comfortable for me, oddly enough.
I too will have to try lizard skins wrap, never seen that before.
And
These guys sell silicone 'tubes' for road bikes, which is pretty comfy from what I've heard. thicker than track grips, and lengthier as well. But it does come with a price tag.
