Why would you put a screen protector on a Garmin?

Phone that is routinely put in pockets, and brief cases along with other items I understand the desire for a screen protector.

But my Garmin is either on the bike or on my desk, neither place does it get scratched.

My 705 is about 18 months old. Sees daily use, and other than the crack from ahaving a SUV hatch closed on it, shows no ware. ( And I was rather surprised that having a hatch slammed on it, only resulted in a little cosmetic damage.
