You put the hanger on the brake bridge, not the fork crown. Mine is drilled and tapped, it has the same threading as a cantilever/V-brake retaining bolt. If it were just new brake levers that would be fine, but the old controls were STI's so it means new shifters, new brake levers and new brakes to go V-brakes and I'm trying to keep the cost down. I went over budget getting the frame thinking I had everything else I needed to do a straight swap.
