I use garmin connect for mundane tracking, but www.strava.com is way cooler. It automatically recognises climbs and "segments" and allows you to compare your efforts to other cyclists who have ridden the same sections. You can also create your own using your lap counter to record a segment (say a local hill or a sprint) and then "publish" it to track your own performance week to week and compare to others. It also has a feature that allows you to conceal the start/finish point of your rides (without affecting your data) so that you're not routinely publishing a map to your house/office.
