how to share garmin data?
#3
Use garmin connect. www.garminconnect.com There is a share feature. You can post your ride to your facebook stuff. It is kind of cool. There is a long list of places you can share it. I always use the fb option.

Ridewithgps is my current favorite. IMHO Garminconnect is pretty lousy. Takes a long time to load and is buggy.

Connect is far, far better nowadays. I use SportTracks for detailed analysis, but Connect for finding and sharing routes, as well as having a backup of all my runs/rides

I use garmin connect for mundane tracking, but www.strava.com is way cooler. It automatically recognises climbs and "segments" and allows you to compare your efforts to other cyclists who have ridden the same sections. You can also create your own using your lap counter to record a segment (say a local hill or a sprint) and then "publish" it to track your own performance week to week and compare to others. It also has a feature that allows you to conceal the start/finish point of your rides (without affecting your data) so that you're not routinely publishing a map to your house/office.

The strava site looks pretty cool...
You can also upload TCX/GPX/KML files to: https://veloroutes.org/upload - see the route/profile on a map, send a link, etc.

The biggest problem I have with Garmin Connect is the upload time. I don't use it regularly, and when I try to upload new files it hangs up and times out. Even manually uploading a file takes forever.

With Strava, you have to pay after 10 uploads?

Sadly, yes. I bit the bullet and have really enjoyed using it, but if you're just after loggin rides there are plenty of other options. We've had quite a bit of healthy competition over Strava with some local riders. Good fun.

They just added another point release that added quite a few improvements, here's my ride from last Sunday with the new charts and the elevation correction enabled
Also it won't let me upload my 209 mile ride from the other week; it got an error and now won't let me delete it and locks up the site when I try to view it... still buggy I guess...

I use garmin connect. I haven't tried others but I think it is good for my purpose.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm a programmer and web dev myself, so I'm much more lenient when it comes to working with buggy software, as well as far more likely to break out Firebug than the average user.
I had the exact same issue, sans needing to update Flash. You need to clear your cache or do a force refresh of the page, Ctrl+R in Firefox, Command-R on OS X for Safari and FF.
Probably a bug with files over a certain size. In the past I have successfully uploaded a 1,400km train trip, but I didn't have second-by-second power data bloating the file size. Definitely something that could slip past unit tests fairly easily; submit a support ticket to Garmin and pray their IT is as good as their warranty department.
I get the distinct impression that GC is meant for the more casual user, especially with the advent of the FR60 and FR110. Garmin knows that the people analyzing every second of their rides are going to be using Golden Cheetah, WKO+, Training Peaks, SportTracks, or some combination thereof and aren't highly interested in pursuing that market.

Try exporting only the track and HR data from whatever software you normally use and reuploading it, my best guess is that it's a file size thing. Alternatively, feel free to shoot me the TCX file and I'll see if there's a messed up header or something similar that's causing the upload to bork.

Actually it works now. The site is much nicer, upload, even for the huge file (18mb) was pretty fast. Here is the ride if anyone cares to see it

I use GC to share rides, and I like it for the ease of use. I've had mine for about a year, and i agree, the new site looks way better, too. Never shared data before (too cumbersome) and now i do fairly regularly. Hadn't thought about how i'd published a map to my front door, though. Funny.
With the 305, the old software let you compare each data set against another, as in elevations vs. time, elevation vs. distance, elevation vs. heartrate, heartrate vs. distance, etc. The new GC just has a couple of settings, though. Does anyone know of any software for the 305 that still lets you pick what you can analyze?

How did I not know about GarminConnect before? I've wanted a way to share my rides on Facebook for a long time and now I finally can. Pretty sweet. Plus when I make a thread about how I was slow and bonked after a short distance, I can link people to the ride and they can laugh at my lack of fitness. Love it!
