I have mine completely neutral, the spring exactly centered between the screws and 0 float. After your post I experimented with several settings, and the only way I could get it to release in was if was set extremely toe-in. It may matter which pedal model you have too, I don't think all the spindles are the same size. Since it's the spindle that is getting in the way, a narrower spindle may do the trick. I have the Ti zeros.
