Needed a little pack to carry some crap in. Here's how I did it:
1) Found a little kid's backpack at the thrift store. 25¢.
2) Cut out a cross shape (with like a 4" body size) out of the canvas.
3) Cut out another piece (same size) with some liner material from inside the backpack. You could prolly skip this if you wanted to, but I was going for broke.
4) Sewed it on with white thread for some contrast.
5) Cut out a piece of leather from some old camera bag that I had salvaged. This is the piece that will attach to my belt so I needed something strong. Anything tough will work I'm sure.
6) Measured out how long the slits needed to be using my belt as a guide. Cut them and sewed that thing on good.
7) Sewed on some velcro from an old saddle bag I found in my storeroom and sewed it on nice and tight.
8) Finally, sewed up the edges with a sloppy zig zag, then stitched the whole thing together (easy) and flipped it right side out. Came out damn good.
